Xander Bogaerts is an Aruban professional baseball shortstop for the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball (MLB). He formerly played for the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball. He joined his current team before the 2023 season.

After joining the Red Sox in 2009 as an international free agent, Bogaerts made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in 2013, playing in 30 games throughout the regular season and postseason while leading the team to the World Series victory. In 2009, at the age of sixteen, Boston Red Sox scout Mike Lord took notice of Bogaerts. After suffering from chicken pox for two weeks, Bogaerts returned to the field and played for Mike Lord. Lord then referred him to Craig Shipley, the Red Sox's vice president of international scouting. Shipley took a plane to Aruba to see Bogaerts play. He inked a deal with the Red Sox that included a $410,000 signing bonus.

He made his professional debut in 2010 in the Dominican Summer League (DSL), where Bogaerts batted.314 with a.396 on-base percentage and a.423 slugging percentage. Along with hits (75), home runs (3), runs batted in (RBIs; 42), and total bases (101), he topped the DSL Red Sox in all of those categories. With a .929 fielding percentage, he ranked tenth in total bases and fifth in RBIs in the DSL. At the age of 18, Bogaerts joined the Greenville Drive of the Class A South Atlantic League the following season. He hit 16 home runs in 72 games, fielded 924, and had a slash line of .260/ .324/ .509. Bogaerts spent a few years on the hinges and finally made the major leagues in 2013.
