During Pokemon GO's Rising Shadows event, trainers have had the opportunity to catch plenty of Skorupi and evolve them into capable and effective Drapion. This Dark/Poison-type creature may not be an unstoppable force in battle, but its solid defense IV stats and diverse collection of learnable moves make it an interesting niche application in a player's lineup in both PvE and PvP.

Although Drapion has some interesting uses in Pokemon GO battles, trainers considering it may want to optimize its moveset for the battle arena. Depending on whether it's fighting in PvE or PvP environments, Drapion may need a different moveset to match the meta.

But which movesets will work best for Drapion in Pokemon GO? It really depends on how a trainer wishes to use the Dark/Poison-type creature.

Although Drapion is a Dark/Poison-type species in Pokemon GO, it can learn many different moves with various elemental types like Ice Fang, Aqua Tail, and Fell Stinger. Despite these moves not receiving the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) like Drapion's Poison and Dark-type moves, they're still great for damage and energy generation in many circumstances. This gives trainers plenty of room to meet many different playstyles in both PvE and PvP battles.

If a trainer is using Drapion for PvE purposes in Pokemon GO, they can usually stick to it as a pure Dark or Poison-type fighter. It'll deal increased damage thanks to STAB, and players can typically forecast what types of Pocket Monsters they'll be facing since raid bosses and Team GO Rocket teams can be countered before the battle begins.

However, in PvP, enemies are much more unpredictable when it comes to type matchups, so Drapion benefits significantly from a more diverse moveset.

Recommended movesets for Drapion in Pokemon GO

  • PvE - Poison Sting and Sludge Bomb or Bite and Crunch
  • PvP - Bite, Aqua Tail, and Fell Stinger or Ice Fang, Crunch, and Sludge Bomb

Since Drapion's collection of learnable moves is so diverse, it can be tricky to acclimate the creature for PvP in particular. With so many enemies that Drapion can face in the GO Battle League, even if a trainer accounts for as many different type matchups as possible, they'll still be unable to contend with a few stragglers.

Since this is the case, players may want to utilize other Pokemon in their team alongside Drapion to help cover its weaknesses and deal with the elemental matchups it can't directly address.

In addition to the movesets listed above, players should remain flexible, particularly in PvP environments. If the recommended movesets aren't working, trainers shouldn't be shy about changing their Fast and Charged Moves to suit their playstyle better or respond to the ever-changing meta of the Season of Heroes.

Drapion isn't a world-beater, but with the right moves and smart placement in a well-rounded team, the creature can be a valuable ally no matter which battles it participates in.
