10 WWE tag teams that imploded due to on-screen envy

Seth Rollins sells outAll good things must come to an end. Tag teams are bound to be broken up.They rarely happen in an amicable fashion. Most of these splits end up with one of the member of a tag team lying down after being attacked by their better half.More break ups happen when a sense of jealously or desire to do better take hold of a performer’s mind. This has led to many heartbreaking moments in the history of this company. Some have come as a huge shock, as something that you just hadn’t anticipated. Here are 10 times tag teams imploded on-screen due to envy-

#10 Hall and Nash

Kevin Nash and Scott Hall changed the entire wrestling business together. They were hugely impactful during the mid to late 90s. They were unbreakable, but even they had to go through a rough patch. Hall was the one who turned on his best friend attacking him and leaving him stranded during a match and siding with Hogan. This came as a result of him feeling like he was always treated as the weakest link whenever he teamed up with Nash.

Hall turned heel, calling Nash, in the coming weeks, as ‘Medium Sexy’.

#9 Brothers to Enemies

The Steiner Brothers

The seeds of a Scott Steiner heel turn were planted with him becoming increasingly arrogant about finishing his tag matches on his own. His brother Rick was left fuming most of the time as he hardly got the tag. They still stretched it out for a while. They even won a Tag Team Championship.

Things looked to get better with The Steiner Brothers facing The Outsiders, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.

They were together in the ring celebrating and awaiting their competition to come ahead and start a fight when Scott hit Rick and subsequently suplexed him out of his wits. He gave a Kliq salute to the NWO and left.

#8 Et tu,Christian!

5 Second Pose

The friendship between Edge and Christian is well documented and one of the most celebrated ones.

The two have a whopping collection of 7 tag team championship reigns. But all of that didn’t matter when Edge won the King of The Ring Tournament in 2001. Who could have actually thought that Christian would be especially happy about it? Well, you won’t exactly be happy if your best friend does better than you do in exams and whatnot. But storyline wise Edge and Christian were not just friends but brothers also.

Christian took no time to kick his brother in the head with a chair.

#7 World\'s Strongest Team

The Strongest Way to Break Up

Big Show and Mark Henry don’t necessarily put a clinic whenever they’re in the ring. But they were probably the most destructive force to be reckoned with. They had some really good matches against Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. They were even better asenemies.

But the team had to disbanden eventually because Mark Henry had enough of it.

There was no way these two sworn enemies could get along for so long.

#6 No Brotherly Love here

These two split again in 2009

The Hardy Boyz have split before but nothing compares to their break up in 2009. Jeff hardy was competing in a match against Edge, the man who had had a deeply personal feud with Matt Hardy just a couple of years ago.

Matt Hardy stood besides Jeff when he was about to attack Edge with a chair kept beneath The Rated R Superstar’s head when Matt slammed a chair to his brother’s head. He did while his biggest arch- rival was lying their almost lifeless.

Hardy described his actions as a result of being sick of being there for Jeff and handling all of his screw ups.

#5 No Family of Mine

The last major feud of Guerrero’s career.

Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio were two wrestlers who respected each other tremendously. In 2005, they even won a tag team championship. Instead of defending their titles at Wrestlemania, Guerrero asked Mysterio for a one-on-one match. It was done just to have a great time wrestling a match against someone you love and respect and to predominantly steal the show together.

Mysterio won and thus the seeds were planted of Guerrero’s increasing frustrations about not being able to beat Mysterio.

Everything came out in its true form on Smackdown when Guerrero bruised and battered Mysterio and ended their partnership.

#4 The Evolution of Seth Rollins

Business Partners

No break up has been as impactful as the one that took place on a fateful Monday Night on Raw in June last year. The Shield stood united after convincingly beating Evolution, the previous night, at Payback. Triple H came out and kept rambling about a certain ‘Plan B’.

He stood there as sure as ever looking at the ring where all the action was about to take place. Seth Rollins ltook a chair chair and slammed it against Roman Reigns’ back much to Ambrose’s disbelief and that ‘NOOOOO’ from a fan that echoed throughout that arena that night.

His desire to move up the ladder in WWE leaving his brothers behind became the most formative stroy of his career.

#3 The Mega Explosion

The Mega Break Up

This is maybe the most original exhibit of jealousy breaking up a great partnership. Hogan and Savage were the biggest names of WWE’s Golden Era in the 80s. Them teaming together was a major phenomenon.

But things became rocky after Hogan began giving Miss Elizabeth a lot of attention. These friendly interactions made Savage feel quite insecure and all hell broke loose during a match with the Twin Towers when Savage inadvertantly fell over Miss Elizabeth thus rendering her unconcious.

Hogan came for the rescue and took her backstage leaving Savage alone to wrestle. Savage refused to tag Hogan later on when The Hulkster did return.

The break up finally happened in the hospital room with Savage ramming Hogan with his title belt, much to Elizabeth’s dismay.

#2 The Evolution Of Randy Orton

Triple H couldn’t fathom Orton’s Championship victory.

So much seems to be known about ‘The Evolution of Rollins’. Back when Evolution was dominating the main roster shows, Randy Orton was the undisputed future of the business. He slowly but steadily made his mark from being the youngest Intercontinental Champion to becoming the youngest World heavyweight Champion. This didn’t sit well with the leader of the pack, Triple H. He got increasingly jealous of the young one in his team. It seemed like he jumped the line or something.

Triple H, Batista and Ric Flair then led a celebration party post-Orton’s victory over Chris Benoit. That turned out to be an ambush and the three- fourths of Evolution then led a merciless attack on Orton.

The Evolution of Randy Orton was the breaking point for this stable.

#1 The Rockers

That Infamous Moment

No list of tag team splits can be ever made without having this one atop the list. Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty were two young up and comers who started their WWE careers together as a tag team. In 1991, The Rockers competed in a match against The Nasty Boys. Jannetty accidently kicked Michaels and that led to Michaels fuming later on. To resolve their differences Brutus Beefcake invited them to what we now know as the infamous Barber Shop segment.

They reconciled with Jannetty, visibly happy but Michaels had some other plans. He superkicked Jannetty and rammed him through the glass. He, then, began a singles’ career and thus the arrogant ‘Boy Toy’ gimmick was born.

The desire for a singles career overpowered his tag team aspirations.
