Beiwen Zhang is a Chinese-born American badminton player specializing in women’s singles. Born on July 12, 1990, in Anshan, Liaoning, China, she currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada and is all set to represent the USA in the 2024 Summer Olympics, Paris.

Zhang's career began in China, but she has represented Singapore from 2007 to 2013 and the United States since 2013. At the 2009 Southeast Asian Games, she won a bronze medal and another bronze at the 2007 World Junior Championship, representing Singapore.

Zhang has an impressive career record of 319 wins and 173 losses. She achieved her highest world ranking of 9 on June 22, 201. Zhang has achieved significant success with multiple gold medals, including the 2021 Pan Am Championships in Guatemala City and the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

Additionally, she secured gold again at the 2024 Pan Am Championships and silver medals in the 2022 Pan Am Championships and 2023 Pan Am Mixed Team Championships.

Zhang was born to mother Weixun Zhang and father Zhang Weixun in Anshan, Liaoning, China. Her parents pushed her to sports when she was eight years old. Her father encouraged her to take up sports, despite her initial fear of swimming. “My dad sent me to learn how to swim, but I don’t like water at all,” Zhang said. “To teach me, they would just throw me in the water. I was crying every single day for a month.” This led her to try badminton.

At the age of 13, her father made the tough decision of sending her to Singapore to join their national team. After achieving notable successes, Zhang decided to retire from the sport in 2010.

In 2013, Zhang relocated to Las Vegas, where she trained at the Las Vegas Badminton Club. Her coach noticed her outstanding performances and encouraged Zhang to resume competing internationally. After obtaining American citizenship, Zhang proudly started representing the United States in international tournaments. She expressed her satisfaction of being in Team USA.

Beiwen Zhang has become well-known in U.S. badminton with her achievements like the gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games. Despite challenges early in her career and moving between countries, her new life in the U.S. and dedication to the sport has made her a standout athlete representing America worldwide.
