Evan Bates is an ice dancer from the United States. Bates’ skating journey began at the age of four. He has a degree in Organizational Studies from the University of Michigan. He graduated from Huron High School in 2007. He and his wife, Madison Chock, perform at team events. At the 2023 U.S. Championships, they broke the record for the highest-ever free dance. At the 2023 World Team Trophy, they set a new world record for the highest-ever rhythm dance and free dance score.
They won five medals at the 2024 World Championships, the most of any U.S. ice dancing team. Bates and Chock made history by becoming the first American ice dancers to win three world titles at the 2025 World Championships. Before his and his wife's remarkable success, Bates was paired with Emily Samuelson for team events. Together with Samuelson, Bates won the 2008 World Junior title, the 2009 U.S. national silver medal, and the 2009 Four Continents bronze medal. In 2010, they took part in the Winter Olympics.
