The center was founded by Jack's grandfather, Yoshisada Yonezuka, a two-time U.S. Olympic judo coach. Jack's older brother, Nick Yonezuka Jr., is also a competitive judo athlete.

In October 2022, Jack became the first American in 30 years to medal at the Junior World Championships, capturing the bronze medal at 73 kilograms (160 pounds) in Ecuador. He is now focused on qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics. He has also set his sights on being a medal contender at the 2028 Olympics in his home country.
