Over the years, WWE has produced countless memorable moments. The vast majority of them were a part of a storyline, either as the start, a plot point, or the end.

However, there have been standalone moments as well, either without a story or shoved into a match with no bearing on the feud.

A lot of it would have been planned beforehand. However, many big moments in WWE happened without it necessarily being in the script.

These moments range from being planned on the spot to arising as a result of unforeseen circumstances. A couple of big matches were also affected due to such unscripted spots.

Anyway, the one common thread between all of these moments is the fact that they remain iconic and memorable to this day.

There are so many more iconic WWE moments that were unscripted, but we are focussing on these five particularly memorable ones.

#5 The Undertaker laughs in Brock Lesnar's face (WWE SummerSlam 2015)

The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar are among the most legendary names in WWE history, with their rivalry being worthy of such a status. There have been many matches and moments between them that are worth remembering.

The biggest moment of this intense rivalry was at WrestleMania 30 when Lesnar ended The Undertaker's undefeated streak at the Grandest Stage Of Them All.

"The Deadman" waited over a year to take his revenge, attacking The Beast Incarnate during his WWE Championship match against Seth Rollins in July 2015 at the Battleground PPV.

Their match at SummerSlam, a month later, was brilliant. It was a vast improvement on the match where Lesnar ended 'The Streak' from the previous year's 'Show of Shows'.

The Undertaker won the match in controversial fashion, but not before a brief and memorable moment with Lesnar. As the former UFC heavyweight sat up mid-match and laughed at him, The Deadman responded with his own evil laugh back to mock The Beast Incarnate.

This was a rare unscripted moment during The Undertaker's 30-year long career, making it more memorable for the WWE Universe. 'Taker recalled the moment last year and explained that he was shocked at how the people were so enthralled by that brief but hilarious exchange between him and Brock Lesnar.

#4 The ending of WWE WrestleMania 35

Becky Lynch is one of the biggest Superstars in recent WWE history. She won a Triple threat match in the main event of WrestleMania 35, becoming the RAW and SmackDown Women's Champion in the process. She did so by pinning Ronda Rousey, with the only problem being that her shoulders weren't down for the count.

There are several ideas behind what exactly happened, with a slew of conflicting reports on it. The Man was planned to win, possibly in that manner itself. However, there was an error in the finish. It was either due to Rousey failing to keep her shoulders down or the referee ending the match early.

Either way, WWE's biggest match of the year ended in a manner that wasn't intended. This was pretty much affirmed by the fact that Vince McMahon fined the referee for what happened at the finish of the WrestleMania main event.

This was pretty unfortunate, taking some steam away from what was still a monumental moment for Becky Lynch. The Man is currently off WWE TV and is taking care of her recently born daughter, while the triple threat at 'Mania remains Ronda Rousey's final appearance for the company to date.

#3 Edge spears Elias (WWE SummerSlam 2019)

He may now be back in WWE as an in-ring competitor, but Edge was far from this stage in 2019. There was seemingly no hope for a return to the ring for the Rated-R Superstar but one moment of trusting himself sparked conversations on the possibility. That came at SummerSlam 2019.

Edge interrupted Elias for what was intended to be a promo in front of his hometown crowd in Toronto. His wife, Beth Phoenix, thought the same thing as she snuck out in the crowd for the segment. The 11-time WWE world champion revealed on his WWE 24 documentary, that he wasn't cleared at the time.

Edge said that he "had a weird inkling" and was feeling the moment, which is why he instantly changed the promo segment with Elias into a spear. The 2021 Men's Royal Rumble winner picked up on what was happening and changed his stance to land the spear on The Drifter.

Despite happening on the Kickoff Show of SummerSlam, this moment is iconic because it featured Edge's first spear inside a WWE ring in over eight years. He would go on to officially get cleared and return in the 2020 Royal Rumble Match.

#2 The ending of WWE Royal Rumble 2005

The finish to the 2005 Royal Rumble Match remains one of the most memorable moments that happened during a WWE pay-per-view. John Cena and Batista were the final two in the bout, with The Animal planned to go over and win the marquee match. However, what happened next (and beyond) was not planned at all.

Batista and Cena somehow eliminated each other, landed on the floor at the same time. This prompted Vince McMahon to furiously storm to the ring while WWE referees improvised on the spot. However, the true insanity of this moment came when McMahon entered the ring to deal with the situation.

He tore both of his quads in the process and was unable to stand. The WWE Chairman was seated in the ring and screamed orders for the match to be restarted. Following these surreal events, Batista eliminated John Cena to win the Royal Rumble Match.

This botch had so many parts to it, from both Superstars getting eliminated at the same time to Vince McMahon injuring himself. It was pretty impressive in a way and remains iconic. Seeing the WWE owner attempt to shrug his off injury and bark out orders was a sight to behold as well.

#1 The Undertaker chokeslams Mankind through the top of Hell in a Cell (WWE King of the Ring 1998)

Possibly the most iconic WWE moment not to have been planned, Mick Foley's fall through the Hell in a Cell structure could have had some dire consequences. King of the Ring 1998 was a rough night for the WWE legend, who was wrestling The Undertaker under his Mankind gimmick inside (or above) the cell.

The Deadman threw him off the top of Hell in a Cell through the announce table, making for one of the most iconic images in WWE history.

What followed was almost as memorable, but it was unscripted. The Undertaker chokeslammed Mankind on the top of the structure and he was supposed to bounce off the cage.

The WWE Legend went through the ceiling and fell into the ring. This was a terrifying moment, one that had gone horribly wrong. However, things could have been much worse. The Undertaker explained how he stepped off the panel that gave way moments before he did. If he hadn't done that, he would have fallen into the ring along with Mankind.

Fortunately, WWE avoided tragedy and Mick Foley did not suffer any serious injuries. He was able to finish the match, with The Undertaker mercifully pinning him in the ring.
