Will Morrison return to form another great tag team?

This week on WWE Backstage, Ryan Satin confirmed that John Morrison was indeed heading back to the WWE. There were rumors all around social media regarding his return, but Morrison was trying hard to shoot down all such rumors.

Morrison is a multi-time Tag Team Champion and Intercontinental Champion, and fans are thrilled that they will get to see an even better version of Morrison once he hits the WWE ring.

While no details have been released regarding which brand he will be joining and whether he will return as a solo competitor or in a tag team, we know that Morrison’s claim to fame came when he formed MNM with Melina and Joey Mercury.

Overall, Morrison managed to have six Tag Team Championship reigns during his first with the company.

Keeping that in mind, we will look at 5 Superstars with whom Morrison could form a tag team with upon his return to WWE.

#5 EC3

Can Morrison help turn EC3's fortune around?

When debuted with his team MNM, Morrison presented himself as an arrogant wrestler who was above all the other Superstars. The gimmick worked really well for Joey Mercury and himself, and the two men ended up with three Tag Team Championship reigns under their belt.

If the company is looking to bring back Morrison with the same character and feel, it would make sense to pair him up with EC3.

EC3 has a similar character and feels he is the best of the best and in the top 1%. With that said, EC3 hasn’t remotely had as much success on the main roster as the WWE Universe would have expected him to.

To push EC3’s career forward, and to give Morrison a partner who he can work very well with, it’d be a good move to put the two Superstars together once EC3 returns from injury and Morrison debuts.

The duo can work well as a heel team on RAW and with the current RAW Tag Team Champions being faces, we could see some great storylines come out.

#4 Cesaro

Cesaro has found a lot of success in his WWE career, but it still does not match up to the level of his talent.

The company gave him a great partnership with Sheamus, and the two men had a great run as The Bar before they split up earlier this year.

Now that Cesaro is a lone ranger on SmackDown who is often seen along with Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn, we could see him get back in tag team action.

John Morrison could return and partner with The Swiss Cyborg who is looking for a direction on the Blue brand. He’s had some negative bookings recently and will be looking for a way to turn it into positive ones.

As fans as always behind Cesaro and looking for him to succeed, it will be good for Morrison if he debuts by forming a team with the former United States Champion.

With fans already looking forward to Morrison’s return, coupled with hopes of watching Cesaro get back to the top again, we could see WWE get an easy way to push both Superstars to the top.

Both men have extensive tag team wrestling experience, and there’s no doubt that they’ll find a way to make their chemistry work.

#3 Elias

Elias is back on SmackDown after some time off dealing with an injury, and he will be looking to get much more ring time than he was before his hiatus.

Elias’ character has a similar feel to John Morrison’s, as he too feels he is above all the other Superstars and an elite. Keeping that in mind, we could see the two men come together to form a team sooner than later.

Elias is a very popular Superstar on the main roster even though he hasn’t won any real Championships yet, nor has he had a good success rate in matches.

His mic work and in-ring skills could come in handy if he is paired with Morrison who is a great wrestler, and could help Elias get back on his feet too.

The two men could form an MNM-esque team that could once again give fans some interesting segments which have been lacking from WWE for some time.

Along with that, we could see them win a couple of Tag Team Championships which will not only help Morrison get back into the game but allow also the company to push Elias in the process.

Morrison will be looking to have some major singles feuds once he returns to the company, and teaming up with Elias initially could help him develop some storylines for the future.

#2 Kevin Owens

Kevin Owens is currently facing the number’s game, as he is in a war of words with Seth Rollins, and under attack from the Authors of Pain.

With all that on his plate, he will be looking for a friendly face in the locker room who could help him even out the odds against the heels.

Owens has usually worked well in partnerships, and we have seen him give us some of his best work with Sami Zayn and Chris Jericho in the past.

Keeping that in mind, it would be great to watch Morrison debut and come to Owens’ aid, forming a partnership between the two men in the process.

The Prizefighter is amazing on the mic and can help put Morrison over once again during his initial months back in the ring before he goes on for another solo run.

WWE seems to be investing a lot in KO’s storyline on RAW, and adding Morrison to the mix will help the WWE Universe get more interested in this rivalry.

Morrison is much better on the mic now than he was during his initial run in the company, and we could watch him do extremely well with Owens leading to a better run for the Superstar.

#1 The Miz

Miz and Morrison are great friends in real-life
Miz and Morrison are great friends in real-life

This is one of the likeliest Superstars John Morrison will associate himself to once he returns.

The Miz and Morrison have been great friends and bitter foes inside the ring and remained good friends outside of it. The two Superstars have enjoyed two Tag Team Championship reigns together, and given us some great segments on television.

Apart from that, they have feuded with each other before and after their Tag Team Championship reigns and battled in a Champion vs. Champion match when Morrison was the Intercontinental Champion and Miz was the United States Champion.

Keeping that in mind, it is likely that if the company is planning to pair him up with someone upon his return, it will be The A-lister.

The Miz seems to be in a storyline with Daniel Bryan on SmackDown which will possibly lead up to a Universal Championship rivalry with The Fiend.

After that, we could see Morrison return to join forces with Miz to give him a new assignment on the Blue brand a new direction to head into.

We’ve seen how close Miz and Morrison are, as Morrison has even appeared in the first season of Miz & Mrs even when he wasn’t signed to WWE. Therefore, a partnership between the two can work really well once again.
