After a grueling Survivor Series weekend, we are heading towards WWE Starrcade 2019 which is scheduled to take on place this coming Sunday.

So far, there are three WWE titles scheduled to be defended at the event. The Fiend is set to defend his Universal Championship against Braun Strowman. Shinsuke Nakamura and Sami Zayn will take on The Miz in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match with the Intercontinental Championship on the line.

Lastly, the Kabuki Warriors are set to defend their title Women’s Tag Team Championships against three other teams in a Fatal 4-Way Tag Team match. In addition, there are few singles matches listed on the card featuring the likes of Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, and AJ Styles.

In this article, we discuss the things that must happen at the upcoming WWE event and the mistakes that should be avoided. So, without further ado, let’s begin.

#5 Must happen: End of Rusev-Lana-Bobby Lashley storyline

Do us all a favor and end this, please?
Do us all a favor and end this, please?

I think enough has been said about the ongoing storyline between Rusev, Lana and Bobby Lashley. A large part of the WWE Universe is unhappy with this particular angle in which we have seen Lana ‘cheat’ on Rusev with Bobby Lashley. This particular feud is, for the lack of a better word, quite off-putting.

At Starrcade, Lashley and Rusev will lock horns in a Last Man Standing match and frankly, this would be the best opportunity to end their storyline. Rusev has been ridiculed on Monday Night RAW for weeks now. A win for him would be ideal to end the ongoing narration that pokes fun at the personal life of a beloved performer.

To avoid further backlash from fans, WWE can simply use this match to close the book on this rivalry between Rusev and Lashley. Even if it’s an abrupt end, fans will be happy to pretend that this feud never happened.

#5 Must not happen: Roman Reigns beats Baron Corbin

The 'King' is looking to tame the 'Big Dog'!
The 'King' is looking to tame the 'Big Dog'!

WWE Superstar Roman Reigns has enjoyed sensible booking in his second run with the company. He is gradually making his way to the top and his role at Crown Jewel as well as Survivor Series has helped the WWE Creative in establishing him as the leader of the locker room.

Currently, the ‘Big Dog’ is feuding with Baron Corbin who believes that he is a better leader when compared to Reigns. ‘King’ Corbin has done an excellent job of garnering heat from the fans with his ability to get under the skin of literally anyone standing against him. Therefore, a feud with Corbin is exactly what Reigns needs to win more fans.

Hence, WWE must have him lose against Corbin at Starrcade so that their feud can continue for the next few weeks, culminating in a match at TLC. That will be a suitable end to the rivalry and will help get more fans behind Reigns ahead of WrestleMania season.

#4 Must happen: Seth Rollins attacks Ric Flair

Remember this?
Remember this?

WWE legend Ric Flair will be present during the event as he is set to appear on the Kevin Owens show. This would be a perfect opportunity for WWE to add fuel to the budding rivalry between Seth Rollins and KO.

This week, we saw Rollins tease a heel turn and it was Owens who stepped up to him. They locked horns in the main event of RAW but their match was interrupted by the Authors of Pain. On Sunday, WWE can have Rollins interfere during the Kevin Owens show and can even make him attack Flair.

This will cause an irked Owens to retaliate and he can call out Rollins for all the time he spent calling himself a ‘fan’ of wrestling. Moreover, it will set up a perfect heel turn for ‘The Architect’ who is in desperate need of a change in his persona.

#4 Must not happen: Women’s Tag Team titles change hands

The Kabuki Warriors should walk out as the Champions
The Kabuki Warriors should walk out as the Champions

Asuka and Kairi Sane are set to defend their Women’s Tag Team Champions against three other teams – Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and Bayley, and Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss.

With Asuka’s budding rivalry with Charlotte, her bout with ‘The Queen’ is bound to be entertaining. But the reigning Champions also share history with other Superstars who will be present inside the ring.

For starters, Bliss and Cross will be keen on getting their titles, which they lost to The Kabuki Warriors, back. Banks and Bayley, the first-ever Women’s Tag Team Champions, would also look to get their hands on gold. As for Lynch, she doesn’t really have a fresh contender for her Championship. So, her move to the Tag Team division is justified owing to her limited use in singles competition.

Despite the aforementioned reasons, Asuka and Sane must retain their titles. The Champions need to be dominant and attract more attention to the Women’s Tag Team division.

Two out of the four teams in this match will eventually fall out. Hence, it’s better if The Kabuki Warriors win the match and go on to feud with Bliss and Cross in order to keep their titles relevant.

#3 Must happen: Sami Zayn betrays Shinsuke Nakamura

The most unexpected betrayal!
The most unexpected betrayal!

WWE Superstar Sami Zayn is one of the most talented performers on the Blue brand. However, he has maintained his distance from in-ring action for a while and is often seen accompanying the Intercontinental Champion, Shinsuke Nakamura.

At Starrcade, both these men will square off against The Miz in a 2-on-1 handicap match with the IC title on the line. Although Zayn is involved in almost every match of Nakamura's, this time we will see him compete inside the squared circle in full capacity. It is important to note that the booking of this match hints at Zayn's possible return to action.

Zayn can betray Nakamura during this bout to set up an eventual fight between these two Superstars. Zayn can either cost Nakamura his title or attack him after the match. Either way, the two will have the chance to engage in a compelling feud. As surprising as it may seem, Zayn has not held any Championship on the ‘main roster’.

Therefore, this Sunday we might finally see WWE make amends for keeping a deserving Superstar away from the title picture for so long.

#3 Must not happen: The New Day lose their titles to The Revival

Indeed, a clash of Champions!
Indeed, a clash of Champions!

The New Day became the Tag Team Champions after defeating The Revival earlier this month. The two teams are once again set to lock horns with the SmackDown Tag Team Championship on the line.

While there’s no denying that Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder are incredibly talented performers, a win for them on Sunday will ruin the hype surrounding their team. The Revival were advertised to represent the Blue brand at Survivor Series but were replaced by Kofi Kingston and Big E after losing the titles.

If they go on to win on Sunday, it would look like WWE intentionally kept them out of the battle for brand supremacy. Needless to say, that would portray both the team and the creative in a negative light. Instead, WWE can have the New Day retain their titles at Starrcade which could be followed by a brutal feud, only for the two teams to meet once again at TLC.

It would be ideal if The Revival pick up the win in the last PPV of the year and walk into 2020 as the reigning champions.

#2 Must happen: The OC attack Kevin Owens

The 'Phenomenal One' has reliable backup
The 'Phenomenal One' has reliable backup

Kevin Owens is set to face AJ Styles in a singles match at Starrcade 2019. For now, no stipulations have been added to the match. Although they are expected to engage in an interesting bout, there are several angles that WWE creative can explore.

WWE can have The OC attack Owens during the match which will force another Tag Team to walk out to support him. Eventually, when Owens manages to overcome both Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows, he can be attacked by Seth Rollins. Given the recent alliances between the different members of the Red brand, this particular spot will cause a few notable names to engage in a brawl.

Eventually, this will help set up a great main event for RAW involving multiple Superstars. This could also end up creating new rivalries for WWE to capitalize on moving forward.

#2 Must not happen: Clean win for Seth Rollins

'The Architect' never runs out of ideas
'The Architect' never runs out of ideas

After portraying a good guy for months, Seth Rollins is finally set to turn heel. He indicated the upcoming change with his actions on Monday Night RAW this week. Although he is currently feuding with Kevin Owens, ‘The Architect’ will be facing Rowan at Starrcade 2019.

Rollins’ run as the face of the company was built around the fact that he is doesn’t back down from a fight. But now that he is turning heel, Rollins must rely on dirty tactics to win a few of his matches to establish his character.

It is difficult to imagine him beating someone as big as Rowan clean. Hence, WWE must have him employ cunning methods to bag a victory. He could either cheat while pinning Rowan or seek help from the Authors of Pain who previously helped him take down Owens.

#1 Must happen: Daniel Bryan attacks The Fiend after the Universal Championship match

How the tables have turned...
How the tables have turned...

After bringing the Universal Championship to SmackDown, Bray Wyatt attacked Daniel Bryan. The two then went on to lock horns for the Universal Championship and the brief build-up to their feud fetched positive responses from the entire WWE Universe.

Although The Fiend retained his title against Bryan last week, we can expect them to continue with their rivalry until it reaches a justified conclusion. At Starrcade, The Fiend is set to defend his title against Braun Strowman in a Steel Cage match.

While The Fiend is expected to retain his title, WWE Creative can have Bryan attack him on his way back in order to keep their feud alive. This will force them to continue their rivalry, culminating with the Universal Championship being defended at TLC.

Bray Wyatt needs compelling rivalries to elevate his Championship reign, and Bryan is one of the few people on the entire WWE roster who can make him more relevant despite losing in the end.

#1 Must not happen: Unflattering end to The Fiend vs Braun Strowman

'Let him in!'
'Let him in!'

Although there’s been little to no build-up for the upcoming Universal Championship match between ‘The Fiend’ and Braun Strowman, it has still managed to generate decent hype among the WWE Universe.

Believe it or not, this match is more important for Strowman, who has been subjected to directionless booking in the last few months. The ‘Monster Among Men’ is either used as a pawn or is featured in irrelevant storylines.

Hence, an unflattering end to his Steel Cage match against The Fiend will deal even more damage to his fading popularity with the fans. At this point, him winning the title seems a bit too far-fetched. Hence, we can only expect him to engage in an exciting match with a good finish.

If Strowman and The Fiend are engaged in a squash match or if their bout ends in a DQ, the viewers will be left with a sour taste in their mouths. It’s a Steel Cage match and WWE must treat it like one!
