5 WWE Superstars who might become world champions in 2019 and 5 who might not

Monday Night Rollins
Monday Night Rollins

With the limited time available and a whole lot of talent present on both the rosters (Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live), it won't be possible to accommodate all the personnel and give them TV time, let alone make them a champion.

There are certain individuals who deserve a shot at being world champion at one stage in their career. They may or may not have been a World Champion before, or they need to kickstart their career or to revitalize themselves at a particular instance. Maybe WWE just decides to give them one final run as champion to end their storied career.

The company tends to focus on only a few individuals, leaving the other deserving people at the mid-card or the lower mid-card, or at times as jobbers.

Here are the 5 such wrestlers right now in the WWE who should be a world champion just for the good things that they have done in the recent past in the main roster, and they deserve to hold either the WWE World Championship or the Universal Title around their waists in 2019.

#5 Who might become a world champion - The Miz

The Miz as a WWE champion again will be awesome
The Miz as a WWE champion again will be awesome

No one deserves to be a world champion much more than The Miz, who has been probably the best heel in the last decade or so. He brought back the relevancy to the Intercontinental Championship almost single-handedly and is one of the popular stars going around in WWE.

Miz has been embroiled in a decade-long feud with the current world champion Daniel Bryan. The one good thing is that DB is now a heel and a clash with a babyface Miz is best for the business. If the rumors of Miz face turn is true and longterm(if his program with Shane McMahon is anything to go by), then a WWE Championship reign is around the horizon for the A-lister.

This match could happen sometime later this year and could be a career-defining moment in an already storied career of the Miz.

#5 Who might not become a world champion - Elias

Walk with Elias-WWE

Even when he was a heel, Elias is one of the most over superstars in the entire WWE roster. He was cheered just like the Miz for his work in the ring as well as on the mic.

Elias is yet to win singles or a tag team title in his WWE career, and it looks like Elias won't be a world champion in 2019, given the way the WWE uses the wrestlers. He at best could be a contender for the secondary titles like the United States or the Intercontinental championships, but the plans for Intercontinental title were also scrapped at the last minute.

But these are early days in his career, and a couple of high profile feuds with bigger superstars in 2019 could make him a contender for the world championship in the near future.

While his mic skills are engaging, and despite being a solid in-ring worker, he has still a long way to go before becoming a world champion.

#4 Who might become a world champion - Drew McIntyre

The Chosen One
The Chosen One

Ever since Drew McIntyre made his much-anticipated return to the main roster after a brief but a great stint in the WWE development center NXT, he has received a monster push. He has lost just 5 times, and all of them have come in recent times.

Drew has been pushed to be the company's top heel, which is evident from his recent beatdown on several stars like Finn Balor, Elias, Dolph Ziggler and now with Seth Rollins. He is a ruthless character on screen.

The Scottish Psychopath has now set his sights on being a world champion, and rightly so. Given the time he gets at the moment on TV, he is clearly a blue-eyed boy in the eyes of Vince McMahon. The Chosen One missed the mark in his first run with the company but seems to have made up in his second coming.

#4 Who might not become a world champion - Bobby Lashley

The Almighty Bobby Lashley
The Almighty Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley's return was highly anticipated, and at one stage was looked at as a viable contender to win the Universal Championship from the Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar, but nothing of that sort happened. He was involved in a decent feud with Roman Reigns but has not had any noteworthy feud with any other superstar.

The recent pairing up with Lio Rush and subsequent heel turn made his character relevant, but with Drew portrayed as the number 1 heel on the Raw roster, it seems he will languish at the mid-card for the time being after winning his first United States Championship.

The former ECW champion could have been a contender for the Universal Championship, but with a packed roster with full of proven wrestlers, Lashley's moment may not come anytime soon in 2019, and he may have to settle for secondary championships.

#3 Who might become world champion - Braun Strowman

The Monster among Men
The Monster among Men

Braun Strowman has had a great year and has been getting a monster push that no one has received in recent memory. He won the Money in the Bank contract, dominated at the Rumble as well as at the Elimination Chamber, and is being booked as the most protected superstar on the roster.

He even won the Raw Tag Team Championships with 10-year-old Nicholas. Such is the confidence that the WWE has in Braun Strowman. He was scheduled to face the Beast Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble, but was replaced by Finn Balor. With rumors of Brock leaving WWE before Wrestlemania, it makes sense to put the championship on the shoulders of the Monster among Men in the foreseeable future.

He got pops even when he was working as a heel. Both Rollins and Strowman are the biggest babyfaces that company has to offer after the departure of Roman Reigns.

#3 Who might not become a world champion - John Cena

The Champ
The Champ

John Cena has been the face of the WWE for more than a decade. But for the past year or so, he has become a part-timer and began to concentrate solely on his films. He is still popular among the masses, as evidenced by the fact his merchandise sells well.

We all know that John Cena is on the verge of breaking Ric Flair's record of 16 world championships and has been there for more than a year now. WWE did not pull the trigger to put the title on Cena in the early part of 2018 when he was available. He may not win the biggest prize available in sports entertainment in the year 2019 too.

John has had a storied career so far in WWE, and he is a future of hall of Famer for sure but his time is coming to an end.

#2 Who might become a world champion - Finn Balor

Finn Balor
Finn Balor

Finn Balor has been one of the most unfortunate superstars on the roster.

He made history by becoming a World Champion just weeks after coming to Raw from NXT, but the reign lasted just a day due to the shoulder injury he sustained for which he needed surgery, and this kept him out of action for some time, which halted his momentum.

He never really got back into the main event that he deserved and didn't even get a rematch for the Universal Title that he never really lost until recently.

He struggled to be in the mix with scene revolved around Brock Lesnar, Strowman, and Roman Reigns in that period after his comeback.

But in recent months he has become relevant against by becoming a rebel against Corbin tyranny and was involved in a great feud with Drew McIntyre. This push may be a start of good things to come for Balor come in 2019, and now he is on the cusp of winning his 2nd Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble.

#2 Who might not become a world champion - Samoa Joe

The Samoan Submission Machine
The Samoan Submission Machine

Samoa Joe is one of the best talkers in the WWE right now, but has not been able to get the top prize despite being a contender for the WWE World Championship and the Universal Championship on multiple occasions.

His feuds with AJ Styles for the title and with the Charismatic Enigma Jeff Hardy have been outstanding, but that didn't help his cause in the year 2018. He gets a loud reaction whenever he enters an arena, irrespective of him being a babyface or a heel.

Joe's has not won any title in the main roster, and his recent feud with Jeff Hardy was decent. He is currently in a feud with Mustafa Ali, and with all being said, at best Joe can target the United States Championship and have feuds with the likes of Rusev and Rey Mysterio in the coming months.

#1 Who might become a world champion - Seth Rollins

The Architect
The Architect

Here is the person who is most likely to become the World Champion in the year 2019. Seth Rollins is a two-time world champion, but this upcoming reign may be his best one yet. He has worked a lot and is one of the best wrestlers going around in the business.

Ever since his performance at the gauntlet match where he defeated both Roman Reigns and John Cena on the same night, the sky is the limit for him. He won the Intercontinental championship twice and became an important part of the Monday Night Raw.

With the absence of Brock Lesnar during his reign as a Universal Champion, Seth has become the face of the red brand in the wake of Roman Reign's absence.

He has moved on from his feud with Dean Ambrose and could very well win the Royal Rumble, enabling him to fight for the Universal Championship at the Grandest Stage of Them All.

#1 Who might not become a world champion - AJ Styles

The Phenomenal AJ Styles
The Phenomenal AJ Styles

AJ Styles made his WWE debut in the 2016 Royal Rumble and quickly became one of the top tier WWE superstars on the roster. He won the WWE Championship just under a year from his main roster debut, and a he is also a 2-time US Champion.

He had a great feud with the franchise player John Cena and put on classics with the 16-time world champion. He held the WWE Championship for over a year and was the face of the SmackDown Live roster ever since its inception.

In his recent feud with the "New" Daniel Bryan, AJ lost his title and with Daniel seemingly turning his attention to Mustafa Ali, it is highly unlikely that AJ will become the World Champion in the coming months. He will probably move on to other things but we never know about WWE.

His contract is set to expire this year and may sign a part-timers deal as he is not getting any younger.
