5 WWE teams that could split up in the upcoming draft

Mere days after WWE SmackDown Live's historic debut on FOX, the promotion will have a two-night draft, giving both brands a unique set of WWE Superstars.

This move will not only give both shows their own identities moving forward, but it will also mark the definitive end of the infamous Wild Card Rule. WWE's annual Superstar Shakeup took place earlier this year after WrestleMania 35, but the Wild Card rule was introduced shortly thereafter, rendering the Shakeup somewhat useless.

On October 11th and 14th, SmackDown Live and Monday Night RAW will have special draft editions, with several Superstars switching brands. As is often the case, we just might see a few tag teams getting split up as a result. Let's take a look at five teams that could feel the brunt of the draft.

#5 Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose

It has been a long while since Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville came up to the main roster. The duo debuted on the November 20, 2017 episode of RAW and called themselves Absolution. Their leader, Paige, soon retired after suffering a devastating injury at a house show, but the two Superstars stayed together, surviving several Superstar Shakeups in the process.

A breakup was teased between the two on the road to WrestleMania 35, but nothing came of it. Deville accidentally cost Mandy a SmackDown Live Women's title match, and a split between the two seemed inevitable.

Will the upcoming WWE Draft finally manage to split up Rose and Deville? They have been a tag team for nearly two years and desperately need a new direction. Expect one of these women to get assigned to Monday Night RAW, which will go a long way in helping both Superstars carve their own paths on separate brands.

#4 Heavy Machinery

If history is any indication, whenever a tag team Superstar gets good audience reactions on a regular basis, chances are that they are destined to be separated from their partner in the following draft. Otis from Heavy Machinery has consistently been one of the most beloved and popular Superstars on the Blue Brand. Tucker, not so much.

To cash in on his popularity, the company might just separate the two and push Otis as a singles star. Hopefully, this doesn't happen and the duo stays on one brand for at least another year. This would give Tucker enough time to get himself over and Otis enough time to develop his already popular character.

#3 Asuka and Kairi Sane

Asuka was the SmackDown Live Women's Champion earlier this year, but lost the title to Charlotte Flair mere days before WrestleMania 35. She soon formed a tag team with Kairi Sane that was managed by Paige. A tag team title victory was teased, but it never came to fruition and the team has done nothing noteworthy on the main roster.

Here's hoping WWE separates these two in order to give Asuka another shot at being a legit singles athlete. With WrestleMania 36 having a pirate theme, they should also build Sane as a singles star and feature her at the event, which is obviously much preferred to being relegated to the pre-show. Asuka, on the other hand, could use a move to RAW and have a lengthy feud against someone like Becky Lynch.

#2 Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode

On a recent episode of Monday Night RAW, Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode formed a tag team, and quickly earned an opportunity at Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman's RAW Tag Team titles. At Clash of Champions, the makeshift duo won the belts. On the RAW season premiere, these two will defend their titles against Heavy Machinery.

If the SmackDown Live duo manages to win the belts, it might create a rift between Ziggler and Roode. With rumors of Goldberg coming back to confront Ziggler on SmackDown Live's FOX debut, it seems like their singles feud is far from over. If this is indeed the case, the team of Roode and Ziggler could come to an end very soon, in order to make way for a program between Ziggler and Goldberg.

#1 The New Day

NXT's SAnitY fell prey to this year's Superstar Shakeup, and the group was disbanded. The New Day has been a mainstay in WWE ever since the group formed way back in 2014. A lot has changed over the past five years and Kofi Kingston is now a WWE Champion. Kingston has transitioned to a main event singles Superstar and has been winning matches left and right ever since he won the WWE Championship at WrestleMania.

Could WWE do the unthinkable and take the risk of separating Kingston from Xavier Woods and Big E? Stranger things have happened and something like this shouldn't be ruled out. If Kofi loses the belt to Brock Lesnar on October 4th, a move to RAW could give rise to a string of new opportunities for him, instead of going back to doing comedy segments with The New Day.
