Predicting the title matches for WWE Clash of Champions

WWE SummerSlam is in the history books and we head towards what seems to be a pretty interesting summer for WWE. After the biggest party of the summer, the next big show for the company is the third ever Clash of Champions PPV, scheduled to take place on September 15 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

With WWE already hinting at possible matches during the latest Raw and SmackDown, let's take a look at out early predictions for the title matches we think will happen at Clash of Champions.

#9 The OC (c) vs The Viking Raiders - RAW Tag Team Championship

The Viking Raiders!

The tag team titles on RAW have been on the back burner ever since Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows won it. It's not really their fault, either. Due to the sheer star power of AJ Styles, all the focus is on him rather than on the team holding the gold. After missing out on the card of SummerSlam, WWE needs to book the two in a match at the upcoming PPV.

The Viking Raiders have been squashing local talents on RAW for ages now, and it's time for them to move up to actual competition. We all know how great a team they are, and them challenging the OG for the RAW Tag Team titles would not only make for an interesting storyline but a potentially thrilling match as well.

The red brand desperately needs proper Tag Champions, and Eric and Ivar have that quality to represent and uplift the entire division.

#8 New Day (c) vs The Revival - SmackDown Tag Team Championship

The SmackDown after SummerSlam saw the Revival shift brands (Wildcard rule, still?) and go head-to-head with the SmackDown Tag Team Champions, The New Day. With them getting a win over the trio, thanks to the help of a certain Apex Predator, there a huge chance of the Top Guys challenging Big E and Xavier Woods for their titles.

Honestly, The Revival would do a better job on the blue brand as compared to RAW. New Day has been on the top of the division always, and they don't need a title as much as their opponents do. #7 Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross (c) vs Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville - Women's Tag Team Championship

After one of the stalest title reigns of this year, The IIconics lost their Women's Tag Team Titles to the team of Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross on the SmackDown before SummerSlam in a fatal four-way elimination match.

While many fans wanted The Kabuki Warriors to be the one to dethrone the champions, it was Bliss-Cross that pulled the rabbit out of the hat. Sadly, Kairi Sane and Asuka again lost to them this past week on SmackDown, and with that won't be getting a title shot at Clash of Champions.

So who's next for the champs? The answer: Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville. Being the fourth team in that match, they were the ones who pinned The IIconics and eliminated them. That should, by default, make them the next team after the Kabuki Warriors to take on the champions.

The Women's Tag Titles have been suffering a lot since WrestleMania. With them being on the shoulders of Bliss and Cross now, WWE needs to recreate the initial glory days of the title. A program against Rose and Deville would certainly help that cause.

Don't expect them to win the titles though!

#6 Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs Ali - Intercontinental Championship

It's quite baffling how WWE leaves one of their two mid-card champions off TV so often. Yes, we're talking about Shinsuke Nakamura, the current Intercontinental Champion. Ever since winning the title from Finn Balor at Extreme Rules, one can count his TV appearances on one hand.

WWE seemed to tease a feud between him and Ali at SummerSlam, but for some reason scrapped it. Thankfully, hope is not all lost, as there are chances that we might see the two square off at next month's PPV.

If the name of your show is "Clash of Champions", it wouldn't be a very good decision to not showcase the Intercontinental Champion on it.

#5 AJ Styles (c) vs Ricochet - United States Championship

On contrast with his counterpart, the mid-card champion on RAW, AJ Styles, has been very heavily involved in the proceedings, and rightfully so. Reforming the Club with Gallows and Anderson (now going by The OC) has been a great move by the current United States Champion.

Even after suffering a loss at SummerSlam, Ricochet again interfered in Style's match on RAW this past week, indicating that the two might not be done yet. The signs are pointing towards yet another clash (no puns intended) between the One and Only and the Phenomenal One at the upcoming PPV.

#4 Bayley (c) vs Charlotte Flair - SmackDown Women's Championship

The Hugger vs The Queen!

After defeating the Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus, the Queen of all Eras Charlotte Flair is full of momentum. With an impressive win over Ember Moon on the following SmackDown, the signs are pointing towards her getting back to the title scene. Honestly, she deserves it, as well.

A match between her and the SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley at Clash of Champions would be a great bout. With WWE's trust in Charlotte, don't count out another title win for the junior Flair.

#3 Becky Lynch (c) vs Sasha Banks - RAW Women's Championship

This has the potential to be one of the biggest feuds of this year.
This has the potential to be one of the biggest feuds of this year.

The women's championship scene at Clash of Champions looks set to be dominated by the Four Horsewomen, as Sasha Banks returned on the RAW after SummerSlam and got straight into a fight with "The Man" Becky Lynch.

After all the gossip about Sasha being done with the company, her return as a heel has just proven how big of a star the red brand was missing. Also, Lynch has lost a lot of heat since her championship victory at the historic WrestleMania main event.

The return of the Boss has made the title scene very interesting, and there are serious chances that we might see a new RAW Women's Champion at the next PPV.

#2 Kofi Kingston (c) vs Randy Orton - WWE Championship

Randy is not done yet!
Randy is not done yet!

Not many were impressed with the ending of the WWE Championship match between Kofi Kingston and Randy Orton at SummerSlam. There was no logical reason to drag out this rivalry, but it is clear that it is what we are getting.

Kofi's reign as the champion, sadly, hasn't been as good as his rise during the Road to WrestleMania earlier this year. At the same time, his story arc with the Viper should end with him getting the last laugh. As good of a heel as Randy is, this feud should end with Kofi on top.

#1 Seth Rollins (c) vs Braun Strowman - Universal Championship

Seth Rollins has undoubtedly been WWE's top guy for the last year or so. His victory at SummerSlam, slaying The Beast once again, just proved the same. Luckily, we are back in the full-time champion era, which means that the Universal Championship should be defended at Clash of Champions.

From the looks of it, one man that leads the list to challenge Rollins for his title first is Braun Strowman. The Monster among Men was surprisingly left out from the card of the biggest party of the summer. With him coming to the aid of the champion on RAW, his involvement with Seth indicates that he is set to be in the title picture.

Whoever beats the man who slew the Beast twice would become a huge deal. Chances are, though that it is probably not Strowman, not at the moment, at least.
