Five big returns expected at Royal Rumble 2014

Royal Rumble

Royal Rumble

The official start for Road to WrestleMania, Royal Rumble is just around the corner and like all the previous years there are a lot of names that are expected to make their return at the battle royal.

Throughout its history, the pay-per-view has managed to thrill the fans with the sheer unpredictability of the rumble entrants and this year wouldn’t be any different. From NXT stars to Hall of famers, anyone could head into the ring in order to give the fans some chills down the spine. Without any doubt that unpredictability itself is the secret behind the success of each and every Royal Rumble in the past. So here is a look at five names that could make their return at the Rumble either as an entrant or in any other manner.

5. Christian

Christian

Christian was knocked out of action after an attack from the Shield. Though the superstar said that the attack came as a blessing later, he added that he hasn’t forgotten what the heel trio did to him. The best way for revenge would be getting into the Rumble and eliminating members of the Shield.

The seasoned veteran could also go straight into a feud with Dean Ambrose for the United States title, which currently looks like an inactive championship. Since everyone is busy thinking about how the Shield will break up and wrestler as experienced as Christian could always be helpful to sort out some details in the situation.

4. Paul Heyman

Paul Heyman

Paul Heyman

He is not one of those main event wrestlers who are going to give a match that is going to be memorable, but Heyman was the most valuable non-wrestler for the company in 2013. He easily surpassed Vince McMahon and his allies to claim the spot and proved again that he is the top evil wrestling genius in the business.

There is no one else in the company who could stir so much hate into the fans than this guy. From his ECW days itself, the used to make stars out of no one but this time around he could be paired with an established star just to give some credibility and depth to the storyline.

3. Sheamus

Sheamus

Sheamus

The Celtic Warrior has been out of action for a few months now and there won’t be a better way to bring him back into action than reminding the fans how dominant he was. A Rumble entry with a couple of big eliminations could set Sheamus with any of the top stars.

His injuries have served their time and there are rumors making the rounds saying that the WWE will bring him back as a heel. He is sure to flourish in the role and will be interesting to see where he ends up. The Authority angle already seems to be packed up but a feud with Big E Langston for the Intercontinental Championship would be a nice touch.

2. Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho

Jericho hasn’t given any positive signs about him returning from his hiatus but that’s the best part, no one calls out loud that they are coming before making a return.

Jericho has some history when it comes to Royal Rumbles and he won’t be much hesitant to add to that impressive record. The prospect of him returning itself is exciting and it goes to a different level when he opens up a lot of other possibilities. He is someone who could strike a feud with anyone on the roster and make both of them look good. His return might be short lived but the return itself promises to be a big pop among the fans.

1. Brock Lesnar

If Paul Heyman is certain to return at Rumble then so is Lesnar. Currently he is on top of a big list of wrestlers who are going to challenge the Streak of Undertaker and a return at Rumble would be necessary to give some buildup to the eventual showdown.

Heyman and Undertaker have a lot of history which could well be reignited with Lesnar being the trump card. Lesnar is also rumored to face Ryback at the Rumble which wouldn’t work well unless the creative decide to give Ryback a miracle push making him a bankable star.

Lesnar is unlikely to be a Rumble entrant, if he is in any case then anything less than a win looks less likely which could set him up with a WrestleMania main event against the best candidate Daniel Bryan. The match surely will be a cracker and will definetly take us to the night when Eddie Guerrero defeated Lesnar to win the WWE title.
