5 Finishes to Edge vs Jey Uso on SmackDown: Roman Reigns to make a big mistake, Possible controversial finish?

It's a high-stakes match-up.
It's a high-stakes match-up.

Edge will have his first match on SmackDown in 10 years as he takes on Jey Uso. The stipulation states that the winner will become the Special Enforcer of the Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan in the main event of Fastlane 2021.

Edge has already secured his Universal Championship match at WrestleMania 37 having won the 2021 Men's Royal Rumble. The Champion of his choosing was Roman Reigns, who he speared after his Elimination Chamber title defense.

It's going to be an interesting match, not only because it's Edge's return to the ring on SmackDown, but also because of the role it will play at WrestleMania 37. At Fastlane 2021, Edge will find out whether he will face Roman Reigns or Daniel Bryan at the Grandest Stage Of Them All.

While Roman Reigns is expected to walk out of Fastlane 2021 as the Universal Champion, there could still be a twist or two a couple of days before the final pay-per-view stop on the road to WrestleMania 37.

Here are five possible finishes for the main event of SmackDown this week:

#5. Roman Reigns' attempt to help Jey Uso win on SmackDown doesn't go according to plan

The dynamic between Roman Reigns and Jey Uso on SmackDown is a tense one. While Jey Uso gave Roman Reigns two excellent Title matches, he eventually aligned with him and acknowledged his cousin as the Tribal Chief.

It has always been about Jey Uso serving Roman Reigns. On SmackDown, it's only logical that the Universal Champion will want Jey Uso as the Special Enforcer at Fastlane.

He will likely have a ringside seat and could attempt to help his cousin secure the victory over Edge. That is unlikely to happen, but Roman Reigns' attempt to help Jey Uso on SmackDown could backfire.

If it does, then it would add a good element to the story before WrestleMania. While Roman Reigns wouldn't accept his mistake, it could plant the seeds for an eventual split from Jey Uso.

Roman Reigns' plan backfiring would also be a good bit of a comeuppance for him for the last few months.

#4. Edge wins on SmackDown with a controversial finish

Edge is likely to get a clean win, but a controversial finish on SmackDown is not impossible. Given that there are five people involved in the affair (Edge, Jey Uso, Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan, and Paul Heyman), the chances of a clean finish seem slim.

This wouldn't be the right decision, but it could happen anyway. Edge could end up winning by disqualification in a move to protect Jey Uso and Roman Reigns. Not that Jey Uso needs to be protected, but a DQ win is still a win.

The match on SmackDown isn't a no-disqualification bout, which means that Jey Uso could try to get Edge disqualified to get an easy ticket to Fastlane 2021.

What if that was to backfire as well? Edge could end up winning on SmackDown by DQ before making a statement heading into Fastlane.

The best way to go about this would be for Edge to spear everyone possible, including Daniel Bryan - who he isn't allied with on SmackDown.

#3. Roman Reigns helps Jey Uso win on SmackDown

Roman Reigns and Jey Uso.

Most of the Roman Reigns-Jey Uso alliance on SmackDown has been about the Universal Champion berating his cousin. Edge even confronted Jey Uso backstage on SmackDown about why he plays second fiddle to Roman Reigns. But Uso was having none of it.

We admit that this is the least-likeliest scenario for SmackDown. Edge is set for a spot in WrestleMania's main event and is unlikely to lose on the way - let alone to Jey Uso on SmackDown.

However, it could add heat to the story between Roman Reigns and Edge heading into WrestleMania 37. If Edge was to lose on SmackDown, it wouldn't be clean. It's all about how WWE could protect him in defeat and make Jey Uso's victory on SmackDown look as lucky as possible.

However, it doesn't mean that this would be the correct decision to make on SmackDown. Edge has wrestled twice so far, and this is going to be his final match on the Road to WrestleMania.

#2. Edge wins clean on SmackDown

Edge on SmackDown - March 12th, 2021
Edge on SmackDown - March 12th, 2021

Edge has wrestled twice in 2021 heading into SmackDown this week. His return was at the 2021 Royal Rumble, where he entered first and became the third man to win the match from that spot (with Shawn Michaels and Chris Benoit being the other two).

His next match was the trilogy bout against Randy Orton, where he won after a distraction from Alexa Bliss. Given that he is facing Jey Uso on SmackDown and not a main event Superstar, the chances of him winning clean are a lot higher.

That would be the right decision to make anyway, and the result, as predictable as it is, wouldn't matter if the match is great. Edge and Jey Uso can put on an instant classic on SmackDown, and the obvious (but correct) payoff is for Edge to come out victoriously.

Hopefully, they have a match on SmackDown that involves no shenanigans. But it's hard to see that happening since it's such a high-stakes match-up.

#1. Daniel Bryan helps Edge win

Daniel Bryan vs. Edge is another dream match.
Daniel Bryan vs. Edge is another dream match.

From Daniel Bryan's point of view, a victory for Edge on SmackDown is far more favorable. What we like about the storyline is that Edge and Daniel Bryan are not friends or allies in any way.

Edge even said that he was better than Daniel Bryan - an argument that many WWE fans would disagree with. Either way, Daniel Bryan's role on SmackDown seems to be that of Roman Reigns' last title challenger before WrestleMania.

Daniel Bryan even attacked Edge, which means that there's no guarantee of getting favorable treatment in the Fastlane Universal Title match. However, Daniel Bryan could have a big role to play in helping Edge win - whether it's by distracting Jey Uso or simply getting rid of Roman Reigns to add more heat to their feud while Edge is the benefactor on SmackDown.

Hopefully, we can get an Edge vs. Daniel Bryan match down the line. It's an interesting story in itself and is worthy of being in the main event of WrestleMania.
