5 Surprises that can happen on SmackDown before Fastlane: Possible twist between Edge and Daniel Bryan, Another star to unexpectedly enter WrestleMania title match?

An explosive episode awaits

It's the go-home episode of SmackDown to Fastlane 2021. This will be the final pay-per-view stop on the road to WrestleMania, following which we will have three more episodes of SmackDown before The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Things are heating up, and SmackDown this week will feature a high-stakes main event and a major title match as well. Will the Blue brand deliver on the final stop before Fastlane 2021?

#5. Edge's high-stakes SmackDown return gets spoilt

Edge and Daniel Bryan

Edge is set to have his first match on SmackDown in a decade. It's incredible to think of how long it has been, especially since Edge was considered the face of SmackDown for a few years in the early PG Era.

But a long time has passed since then, and Daniel Bryan has been among the top WWE Superstars this past decade. He has been a featured star on SmackDown ever since 2016, where he was first the General Manager before transitioning back into a full-time in-ring performer in 2018.

This week on SmackDown, the main event will feature Edge against Jey Uso. The stipulation is that the winner will become the special enforcer for the Roman Reigns-Daniel Bryan Universal Championship match at Fastlane 2021.

Obvious logic states that Reigns will want his cousin Uso to win, while Bryan would want Edge to win. What has been interesting is the dynamic between Bryan and Edge.

For the two babyfaces, being on one side doesn't mean they're aligned. If anything, they seem to dislike each other, and Edge still has the "Ultimate Opportunist" part of his character, whether he's a heel or a face.

A big surprise on SmackDown would be if Edge were to lose the main event. It doesn't have to be by pinfall or submission either. A controversial finish (Disqualification or count out) that is inadvertently caused by Bryan would only fuel the tension. It would also add another obstacle for Daniel Bryan at Fastlane 2021.

#4. Sasha Banks' SmackDown Women's title match to come with twists and turns?

Is Sasha Banks' reign in jeopardy?
Is Sasha Banks' reign in jeopardy?

Sasha Banks' reign as SmackDown Women's Champion has been her longest so far. In fact, this run alone has been longer than all four of her RAW Women's Championship reigns combined.

Given that Banks is teaming up with Bianca Belair to challenge for the Women's tag team titles at Fastlane, it seemed guaranteed that she would walk into WrestleMania 37 as the SmackDown Women's Champion. That was until last week.

Reginald, who is now aligned with Nia Jax (and Shayna Baszler), suggested a SmackDown Women's title match, which was made official. Banks' reign as Champion is in jeopardy as she takes on Jax in what could be her final title defense before WrestleMania 37.

Last week, Belair was pinned by Tamina, who was teaming up with Natalya. The SmackDown Women's Championship picture has been a cluster, but what if there's one big twist left?

Carmella has been on the sidelines, and if she were to make an impact in the SmackDown Women's title match, she could automatically enter the picture for WrestleMania this year.

#3. The Street Profits' SmackDown tag team title pursuit doesn't go according to plan

Last week on SmackDown, we got an eight-man tag team match that may have been a WrestleMania 37 preview. The Street Profits teamed up with Rey and Dominik Mysterio to take on SmackDown Tag Team Champions Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler along with The Alpha Academy.

It was a sweet victory for the babyfaces on SmackDown, as Montez Ford pinned Roode to get the victory. With that, The Street Profits suggested in a backstage interview that they're both in tag team title contention.

We could see a version of The Street Profits vs. Roode and Ziggler - whether it's a non-title match or a singles match between a member of each team. But given that WrestleMania 37 is right around the corner, things can still escalate on SmackDown.

The Mysterios and The Street Profits could have tension between themselves, which would be the setup for an inevitable Fatal-Four Way Tag Team SmackDown title match at WrestleMania 37.

#2. Apollo Crews gets the better of Big E on SmackDown

Last week on SmackDown, Big E made his return. Removing the neckbrace and cast that he had, he was right back in action. Sami Zayn ended up welcoming him back and faced him a solid bout, which Big E won.

It was post-match when Apollo Crews attacked him with the steel steps - which is what he did to put him out in the first place. The feud has reached a new level of intensity and it will all come to a boil this Sunday at Fastlane 2021.

Will Crews win the Intercontinental Championship for the first time? It could be a fun match to see, but just like the SmackDown Women's title picture, there could be a third name entering the mix.

We can only hope that Apollo Crews will be in the title picture come WrestleMania, but the third name that could enter the fray is Sami Zayn - who Big E defeated to win the Intercontinental Championship on the Christmas episode of SmackDown.

Zayn could help Crews get one over Big E to eventually enter the title picture again. He doesn't seem to have a WrestleMania direction anyway.

#1. Murphy makes another attempt to rejoin Seth Rollins on SmackDown, but things go south

With Seth Rollins on SmackDown, it's been a tale of two stories. He has been trying to get Cesaro to align with him, only to get rejected. His old ally Murphy, however, wants to rejoin him but has been brushed off.

Cesaro has defeated Murphy two weeks in a row on SmackDown, and last week, it wasn't a standing ovation that the former got from Rollins - it was a vicious assault.

Murphy might continue to try and re-align with Rollins, but it's unlikely they will get back together unless the Australian makes a big statement against Cesaro.

Seth Rollins assaulting Murphy would be a big surprise, although it makes sense in the story. It would also add another element to Rollins' character on SmackDown and reinforce the fact that he will be one of the top heels of the brand post-WrestleMania 37.

We're not sure if Seth Rollins even has a match planned for The Grandest Stage of Them All.
