Roman Reigns and John Cena kick off Smackdown

A 10-man tag-team main event, a rare Friday night appearance from John Cena, Brie Bella’s first match since SummerSlam and Rusev answers to Mark Henry’s challenge.

Here are the results of an explosive WWE Smackdown event.

From John Cena’s message to an epic main event announcement

John Cena kicked things off as he made his way into the ring with announcers Michael Cole, Tom Phillips and JBL at ringside. Cena delivered an unconvincing message to the WWE universe as he talked about his WWE World Heavyweight title rematch against Brock Lesnar at Night of Champions. Even though no one thinks he can overcome Lesnar at the PPV, he made it clear that he will get his revenge come this September 21st. But his speech was cut short as Kane and Seth Rollins appeared on the stage.

Rollins stated that the 15-time World champion was going through a mid-career crisis and he is going down. Roman Reigns’ music hit as he made his way through the stands. With Randy Orton taking a night off, Reigns said that he had his sights set on Mr. Money in the Bank and his corporate associate for the night. The Wyatt Family got into the mix of things followed by Chris Jericho and Mark Henry and The Big Show.

With an all-star line up involved in a stand-off in the opening segment of the night, COO Triple H announced that there will be a 10-man tag-team match featuring Kane, Rollins and The Wyatt Family against John Cena, Roman Reigns, Chris Jericho, Mark Henry and The Big Show.

Dolph Ziggler vs Cesaro

With his Night Of Champions opponent Sheamus watching from the announcers’ table, Cesaro feuded with Intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler in a singles match. The no.1 contender for the United States championship worked on Ziggler during the initial phase of the match. Ziggler started to build momentum, but that was short lived after Cesaro brought him down with an uppercut.

Ziggler responded with a DDT but Cesaro again came back with a Clothesline. But the King Of Swing was rolled up by the IC champion for a three-count and thus emerging victorious in the bout.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Cesaro unleashed a post-match assault on Ziggler but The Celtic Warrior got involved and saved the Show Off from receiving any further damage, throwing his his title at the No. 1 contender and blasting him with a bone-crushing Brogue Kick.

Heath Slater vs Jimmy Uso

Jimmy Uso was joined by his injured brother, Jay Uso at ringside while Heath Slater was accompanied by Titus O’Neil as the One Man Band took on one-half of the tag team champion. In the end, the One Man Band failed to overcome the high-flying Samoan as Jimmy scored a pinfall with a top-rope splash.

Winner: Jimmy Uso

Rusev and Lana accept Mark Henry’s challenge

Lana and Rusev stood inside the squared circle as they cut an anti-American promo stating that it’s an oxymoron to call Nebraska “America’s heartland,” because America has no heart. After the usual Vladimir Putin picture on the Titantron and Russian flag display, Mark Henry came out and seeking an answer the World’s Strongest challenge from the Ravishing Russian to which she accepted on behalf of her Super Athlete, setting up a huge head-on collision on Sept. 21.

Brie Bella in action against Divas champion Paige

Paige vs Brie Bella

Brie Bella returned to in-ring action as she went up against Divas champion Paige in a one-on-one non-title match. With her twin sister at ringside and Paige’s ‘frenemy’ at commentary, Brie gained the upper hand after she delivered a clothesline followed by a dropkick. Amidst the height of the action, AJ and Nikki Bella got into an argument at ringside and the former Divas champion launched a series of rights on Nikki.

Brie came to her estranged sister’s rescue as she pulled AJ off her back. But her return to the ring was met by a Ram-Paige from the Divas Champion as Paige pinned her for the three-count and picked up a win.

Winner: Paige

Bo Dallas vs Zack Ryder

Bo Dallas defeated Zack Ryder with his signature Running Bo-dog, but it was the inspirational Superstar’s post-match message that sparked some real fireworks. When Dallas appeared to be copying Jack Swagger’s “We the People “ catchphrase, a fuming Real American stormed the ring to engage the grinning grappler in battle. The patriotic Superstar kicked Dallas from the ring after a furious fight, before proudly delivering his mantra of “We the People” alongside Zeb Colter.

Winner: Bo Dallas

The 10-man tag team main event match goes out of control

John Cena, Roman Reigns, Chris Jericho, Big Show and Mark Henry vs Seth Rollins, Kane and The Wyatt Family

The huge showdown proved to be an evenly matched contest, but SmackDown’s squared circle just couldn’t contain these fierce foes. The match eventually devolved into chaos as the referee was forced to disqualify The Wyatt Family and their cohorts for breaking up John Cena’s STF on Seth Rollins and for refusing to stop their assault. After the dust settled, the bodies of Rollins, Corporate Kane, Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper & Erick Rowan were strewn outside the ring as Cena, Roman Reigns, Chris Jericho, Big Show & Mark Henry overwhelmed their villainous rivals to fight another day.

All ten men brawled well after the match had ended. Reigns connected with his Spear on Reigns, and Cena gave the Attitude Adjustment on Rollins. Cena’s music played to close out the segment. Cole, Philips, and JBL all gave a final hard-sell for the “season premiere” of Monday Night Raw before they signed off.

Winner: John Cena, Roman Reigns, Chris Jericho, Big Show and Mark Henry via DQ
