The biggest gripe fans have with Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is its characters. Aside from this, many other aspects of the series are routinely praised. It is generally commended for its refreshing and unique take on the Narutoverse. The story places a greater emphasis on the Otsutsuki, the originators of ninjutsu. Another aspect that receives praise is its fight scenes.
Regarding characters in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, only a select few are handled properly. Boruto and Sarada are the standouts. Boruto’s character growth is only a natural progression of what occurred in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Sarada, on the other hand, grows during Two Blue Vortex. Other characters that are handled brilliantly are Shikamaru, Sumire, and Kashin Koji.
However, there are characters that are handled poorly. Konohamaru’s development under Ikemoto has been disappointing. However, it is Mitsuki who has been treated abysmally despite holding so much promise.
This treatment bears similarities to how Yamato was treated in Naruto Shippuden. Their characters were brought in to perform a certain role, and they never lived up to that role. Here is how Mitsuki might become the next Yamato in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Why Mitsuki must get a power-up in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex

Power-ups are some of the most important parts of anime. This rings true, especially for Shonen anime, where characters undergo training arcs or time skips in preparation for future battles. In Naruto, the titular character trains with Jiraiya; in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Jonathan Joestar learns Hamon from Zeppeli.
Boruto: Two Blue Vortex resumes after a time skip. However, only a handful of characters can face the threats of the Otsutsuki and Claw Grimes. The situation worsens when the Shinju emerge, and it becomes abundantly clear that most characters in the series remain stuck at the abilities they displayed in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations.

Mitsuki is one character who seems head and shoulders above most of his age mates in the series, except Kawaki and Borushiki. This is due to Sage Mode and his grasp on ninjutsu. However, fans have yet to see any of these abilities come to the fore. All fans have seen is an angry Mitsuki.
If Mitsuki’s anger could be translated into raw feats of power, it would be good, but it couldn't. Mitsuki’s abilities were greatly needed during the Sunagakure arc, but Sarada had to save the entire team. The same happened with Yamato, who had so much potential but never lived up to it.
Yamato was meant to prevent the Nine Tails from wreaking havoc, but he rarely performed that role throughout Naruto. He was now quickly dispatched by Kabuto and never made another useful appearance in the series. Mitsuki might be on the same path as he is stuck in the limbo between being important and non-important.
Final thoughts
Mitsuki should be at the forefront of things in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, but his character is currently being treated as a passenger. This problem started in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, as Mitsuki was obsessed with Boruto. Maybe this is an intentional move by Ikemoto to give Mitsuki an amazing character arc.
