This marked the first win for the National League in the All-Star Game since 2012, ending a decade-long championship drought in the Midsummer Classic.

The game saw a turn of events in the top of the eighth inning when Elías Díaz hit a two-run home run, giving the National League the lead at 3-2.

Prior to the 2023 win, the National League's last All-Star Game win was in 2012, where they had dominated with a score of 8-0 against the American League. The 2012 game, the 83rd edition of the All-Star Game, had been held at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, home of the Kansas City Royals.
