Celeste Taylor has been one of the standout players for the Ohio State Buckeyes in recent times. She was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in steals. She has been highly effective as the guard for her team as her stellar rebounding skills and shot blocking skills have transformed her into one of the biggest guards in the nation.

Taylor committed to Ohio State in her fifth and final year of college. She has been recognized as one of the best defenders in the nation when she was named as a finalist for the 2024 Naismith Defensive Player of the Year. While participating in 32 games with the Buckeyes, Celeste Taylor has averaged 10.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game.

Celeste Taylor has won three gold medals with Team USA basketball – in 2017 FIBA U16 Americas Championship, 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup and 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup.

Celeste Taylor’s Early College Basketball Career and Transfer

Celeste Taylor embarked on her women’s college basketball journey with the Texas Longhorns in Austin Texas. As a freshman for the Texas women’s basketball team, she started 26 of her 30 games and bagged 9.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.

In 2020, she was included in the 2020 Big 12 All-Freshman team and had a three-time Big 12 Freshman of the Week selection. Over her two seasons with Texas, Taylor started 52 games and averaged 12.3 points in her sophomore year.

She entered the transfer portal after the Longhorns moved on from head coach Karen Auston and chose to play with the Duke Blue Devils. She was the leading scorer for the Duke in her second season and averaged 11.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals for the Blue Devils. The 5ft 11in guard from Valley Stream had a defensive rating of 72.2, that helped her become a finalist for the Naismith National Defensive Player of the Year award in her final season with the Blue Devils.

Celeste Taylor’s College Basketball Career After Transfer

Celeste Taylor again entered the transfer portal in 2023 and committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes for her final year of college. In her final college season with Ohio State, she averaged 10.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in 32 matches. Taylor was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year for her contribution to the Buckeyes this season.

She is in her fifth and final year of women’s college basketball as of April 2024. The Buckeyes graduate announced that she will be entering the 2024 WNBA draft.

Celeste Taylor’s High School Career

Celeste Taylor started playing varsity basketball for the Valley Stream South High School before transferring to Long Island Lutheran High School in New York a year later. Taylor was rated five-star recruit and was ranked No.6 in the class of 2019 by ESPN.

As a senior in Long Island, she averaged 16.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game
