Will Johnson is a defensive back and played for the Michigan Wolverines during the 2024 season as a junior. His hometown is in Detroit, Michigan, and he played high school basketball at Grosse Pointe South High School. As a senior at Grosse Pointe South High School, Johnson made 45 tackles, including 31 solo tackles, with 3.5 for loss. He contributed 1,302 all-purpose yards through receiving, rushing, and returning punts. He even scored a punt return touchdown. He committed to the University of Michigan in January 2022.

Upon joining the Michigan Wolverines as a freshman in 2022, Will Johnson appeared in all 14 games, making five starts as a defensive back. During his freshman season, he made 27 tackles with 2.0 for loss and three interceptions among six pass breakups, earning him accolades as a Freshman All-American and sharing Defensive Freshman of the Year honors. In his sophomore season in 2023, Will Johnson's impact on the field persisted. He shared Defensive Player of the Week honors for his performance against Minnesota.

Will Johnson was named to the Pro Football Focus's PFF True Freshman All-America team and was declared the Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2022. He also won the National Championships home with the Michigan Wolverines and was also the defensive MVP of the National Championships during the 2023 season. in 2024, he was a Semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award and again made it to the All-American second team.
