Before the start of the home ODI series against Australia, Ambati Rayudu was considered to be a certainty in India's World Cup squad. But that is when things started going haywire for Rayudu, who was dropped from the playing XI after a couple of poor scores.

A lot of people still believe that Rayudu is India's best bet at number 4 going into the World Cup. Unfortunately, he has made things extremely difficult for himself after a mediocre performance in IPL 2019.

The 33-year-old has scored a meager 133 runs at an average of 22.16 in 7 matches. His low strike-rate of 89.26 would surely go against him too at the time of selection.

On the other hand Vijay Shankar, who has been in a rich vein of form, has extended his purple patch in the IPL as well.

Even though Rayudu scored a half-century against the Royals, it might not be enough to help him make it to the World Cup squad. In case Rayudu misses out from the final 15, he will surely regret missing out on the opportunities in the IPL.
