Australia has a habit of resting its main players before a major series or tournament. It has done the same this time around too. With the World Cup being a priority, major players like Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Finch, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins opted out of the IPL 2019 auction.

Along with Cricket Australia, the English and South African Boards have also asked their players to come back after 30th April. Effectively, half of the IPL will be without the major foreign stars.

Even Bangladesh Cricket Board has decided to hold back Mustafizur Rahman due to his injury concerns. Only New Zealand and West Indies have made their players available for the entire season.

In fact, BCCI might also think about resting some major Indian players like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah given the workload they have had to deal with in the last few months.

The lack of major names from international cricket would take away some of the sheen of the tournament this year.
