Since the inception of the IPL in 2008, Indian cricketers have been given a platform and opportunity to learn from the best players in the world and express themselves. There have been a number of players who have made a name for themselves in the biggest league in the world.

Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga holds the record for the most number of wickets in IPL history, with 154 scalps in 110 matches, for Mumbai Indians.

Here we take a look at the top five Indian bowlers with the most number of wickets in the tournament's 10-year history.

#5 Ravichandran Ashwin

It's no surprise that the Indian spin wizard Ravi Ashwin makes his way on to this list. Having played a majority of his IPL with Chennai Superkings, he moved to Rising Pune Supergiant for two seasons before being picked up by KXIP. He is the captain of the side and has picked up 106 wickets and counting in the history of the IPL.

The 31-year-old right-arm spinner Ashwin has picked up six wickets in his 10 games with the KXIP this season and has done a good job as captain. The spinner is an experienced campaigner but is not in the reckoning for the purple cap this season.

Ashwin has appeared in more than fifty tests, over hundred ODI's and over forty T20I's for India but is facing stiff competition from Chahal for a spot in the national team.

#4 Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Indian right-arm seam bowler, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is fourth on the list with 118 wickets. He was initially handed a contract by the RCB, he has played for Pune Warriors and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Having spent a majority of his career with the Sunrisers, Kumar was retained by the franchise on two occasions proving the importance of the player.

The only seam bowler on the list, Kumar is a cool customer with great swing bowling ability. The bowler is not the fastest bowler or the most dominating bowler, but he sure is one of the most technical seamers in world cricket.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad has hugely benefitted from the wickets picked up by the player as he has won the tournament with the franchise. India's leading seamer and the only guarantee in the national team at the moment with Virat Kohli, Kumar is a senior player in most sides, given his pedigree and experience.

#3 Harbhajan Singh

Former Indian off-spinner, Harbhajan Singh is third on the list with 133 scalps in his IPL career. The player has spent the majority of his career with the Mumbai Indians and was picked up by the Chennai Superkings in the current edition of the tournament.

Bhaji is an experienced veteran and a smart selection from the Chennai franchise. The favourites to the win the IPL, given their superb start to their comeback season, Chennai have been in fabulous form and are looking hard to beat. Despite Bhaji not featuring prominently so far this season, he could be a crucial member during the playoffs.

Harbhajan Singh is an Indian cricketing legend, has won multiple IPL's with Mumbai and is gunning for a win with the Superkings in this campaign.

#2 Piyush Chawla 134

Chawla is third on the all-time list

Indian World Cup winning spin bowler, Piyush Chawla is second on the list of Indians with the most wickets in the IPL with 134. The spinner has played for KXIP for five years and was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014 and still plays for the side.

A right-arm leg-spinner aged only 29, Chawla still has time to work his way back into the Indian fold. Since his move to the KKR, he has won the IPL and played a massive role in helping the team to victory.

The player from Uttar Pradesh has represented India in 3 tests and 25 ODI's so far in his career. With age on his side, Chawla will need a consistent season in the Ranji Trophy or in the IPL to stand any shot of a return to the national side.

#1 Amit Mishra

MIshra has spent a majority of his career in Delhi

India's leading wicket in IPL history, Amit Mishra has picked up 140 wickets during his IPL career. He initially signed with Delhi Daredevils before moving to Deccan Charges after three seasons. He spent four seasons in Hyderabad in total as he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad after his two years with the Deccan Chargers.

Mishra then returned to Delhi in 2015 and has continued his career at the country's capital since. Mishra has appeared in 22 tests, 36 ODI's and 8 T20I's for the country. Another quality spinner who has been inconsistent, Mishra now 35, has to do something extraordinary to regain his place in the national side.

However, the spinner can still ply his trade in the IPL and extend his lead at the top of the Indian charts as the highest wicket-taking bowler in IPL history. Mishra is also second on the all-time list of wicket-takers only behind Lasith Malinga. He could overtake the player and reign supreme as the tournaments all-time leading wicket-taker.
