Australia and Pakistan have locked horns 10 times at the ICC Cricket World Cup, with the former dominating the ledger by 6-4

Australia won their maiden clash in 1975 by 73 runs before Pakistan hit back with an 89-run triumph in the 1979 edition.

In 1987, Australia, thanks to a brilliant cameo from Steve Waugh (32* off 28) and a five-for from Craih McDermott (5/44), stunned the Pakistanis in front of their home crowd in the semi-final by scripting a stunning 14-run victory.

However, 4.5 years later, Pakistan returned with vengeance as they beat the defending champions at the WACA by 48 runs to sink the home sides' chances of making it to the knockouts.

The 1999 World Cup saw Australia and Pakistan square-off twice. The first bout was won by Pakistan (by 48 runs), but it was the Aussies, who had the last laugh as they walloped the Pakistanis by 8 wickets in the final at Lord's to start their era of dominance.

Australia's defeat to Pakistan in the Super-6 round of the 1999 WC also proved to be the last time they were defeated in the quadrennial event by any side for the next 12 years.

Pakistan faced Australia in the 2003 event, and at one point, it looked as if they will again upstage the defending champions at the showpiece event. But, they were eventually knocked out by a rampaging Andrew Symonds, who went on to smash an unbeaten 143 to lay the cornerstone of a commanding win.

Eventually, it was Pakistan, which broke Australia's unbeaten run in World Cup's when they beat the defending champions by 4 wickets in the 2011 event.

However, since then, Australia have again regained their stranglehold over the Pakistanis by beating them comfortably by 6 wickets and 41 runs in thee 2015 and 2019 event.
