Interview with Laxmi Ratan Shukla: "SRK is very passionate about the game and keeps us motivated"

KOLKATA, INDIA – APRIL 17: Laxmi Ratan Shukla bowls during the 2010 DLF Indian Premier League T20 group stage match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals played at Eden Gardens on April 17, 2010 in Kolkata, India.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla plays for the Bengal Ranji Team, and was one of the most important factors in the victory of Kolkata Knight Riders at this year’s IPL. He was recently adjudged as the Best All-Rounder in the domestic circuit. In an exclusive interview with Sportskeeda correspondent Taruka Srivastav, Shukla spoke about his career and ambitions:

Q. You were excellent with the ball today against Mumbai. Are you satisfied with your four wickets?

I am glad to have done well today. I concentrated on the line and length and everything turned out good. Yes the wicket is a tough one and Mumbai is a pretty strong side, so I am happy.

Q. In your next match you play against Gujarat. What will be your approach?

We will be looking forward to playing well and earning some points for the team.

Q. You played a really significant role in KKR’s IPL victory this year. Do you consider yourself more of a limited format player?

The IPL win was a great accomplishment and motivated me a lot, but I believe I have performed well in all the formats of the game. As a player I keep trying my best and deliver excellence, no matter what the format.

Q. How is Shah Rukh Khan as an owner of the KKR team?

He is an excellent owner. He is very passionate about the game and keeps us motivated. Even on the days when we didn’t do well, he would just come and ask everyone to relax and not take any pressure. I am glad we won the IPL this year. It was very special for him and for us.

Q. You were bestowed with the BCCI Award for the best all rounder in the domestic circuit. How did that make you feel?

Yes obviously it’s good when your hard work is recognized and I feel really honored.

Q. As a senior player in the Bengal team, what is your role?

I try to make sure that I perform well with both the bat and the ball. I keep encouraging everyone in the team.

Q. Despite doing pretty well in the domestic circuit, you haven’t got a second call after playing for India back in 1999. Why do you think that is the case?

To be honest I don’t know myself. I do feel sad about it but the selections are not in my hand. I still have faith in my abilities and will be proud if I get a chance to play for India.
