Ever since the High Court verdict meant shifting all matches out of Maharashtra after April 30, Bangalore and Kolkata were being considered to be the front-runners to host the IPL final. The Eden Gardens was believed to be the more favoured choice because it has a huge capacity of over 65,000 as compared to the 40,000 at Chinnaswamy.
It was understood that the CAB were also keen to host the IPL 2016 final at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. CAB secretary Subir Ganguly had told PTI on Wednesday, “We are not going to go up and say anything but in case BCCI wants Eden to host the final, we are always ready.
“Who will refuse an IPL final? The CAB has already organised two high-profile World Cup games (India vs Pakistan) and (World Cup final between West Indies and England) successfully.”

The IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla was supposed to meet representatives of the Mumbai Indians, Rising Pune Supergiants and the Kings XI Punjab today evening to discuss potential alternate venues, should the BCCI ultimately fail to obtain a stay order.
In the latest series of emerging developments, the IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla has reportedly recommended to the IPL governing council that the 2016 IPL final be held in Bangalore. These recommendations were met forth after he had met with the representatives of those three teams in Delhi.
Should these recommendations be ratified by the governing council, Bangalore will host the first Qualifier and the final while Kolkata will host the Eliminator and the second Qualifier.
Sources have also suggested that the Pune Supergiants' players have chosen Visakhapatnam as their alternate home ground though the franchise owners are still in favour of Raipur due to better revenues.
