The number of injuries in IPL 2017 are almost as staggering as the number of catches that have gone down in the tournament. Unfortunately for Gujarat Lions, Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye, who is their leading wicket-taker in the tournament joined that list before being taken off the pitch on a stretcher during the final game of the season at Rajkot, against Mumbai Indians.

Trying to save a boundary off the bowling of Lions captain Suresh Raina, Tye injured his left shoulder and the physio immediately came onto the pitch. It was similar to Chris Lynn’s injury earlier in the season and Tye looked to have dislocated his shoulder and looked in plenty of pain before he was taken off the pitch.

The incident occurred during the first ball of the 11th over of Mumbai Indians’ run chase. Raina bowled a full toss and the in-form Parthiv Patel just hammered the ball to a certain boundary through mid-wicket. The Australian pacer chased the ball and put in a great effort to the stop the ball but he injured his left shoulder and immediately looked in a world of pain even before the Gujarat Lions physio came out with the game evenly poised.

The shoulder injury bug seems to have found another victim in Tye and given the fact that he was taken off the field on a stretcher seems to suggest that he might not play any further part in this year's tournament which isn’t great news for the Lions.

The amount of pain that Tye was in seems to suggest that it isn't something minor but the Lions will be hoping that he can come back as his absence will be a huge blow for them as he is not only their leading wicket-taker but also the one who has made all the difference in IPL 2017 since his introduction.

His absence didn't hurt them a great deal in the game against MI where a great fielding effort that saw four direct hits coupled with some sublime death bowling helped Gujarat Lions almost defend their modest total. In the end, the game ended in a tie and a sublime final over from Jasprit Bumrah gave Rohit Sharma’s side the victory.
