IPL 2017: Sunil Narine equals the record for the fastest fifty in the League's history

Kolkata Knight Riders opener Sunil Narine has equalled the record for the fastest fifty in the history o the Indian Premier League, smashing a half-century in 15 balls during the game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.

The left-hander, opening the batting with Chris Lynn, reached the mark in the fifth over of the innings, when he smashed Sreenath Aravind straight over his head to get to the mark, thereby equalling record set by his teammate Yusuf Pathan, who achieved it in the 2014 edition of the competition against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens.

His destructive exploits meant that the Knight Riders reached 105 runs in the opening Powerplay, becoming only the second team after the Chennai Super Kings to make 100 runs in the opening 6 overs in the history of the IPL. Their score of 105 is also now the highest score in the Powerplay in the IPL.

He was dismissed for a 17-ball 54, caught by Kedar Jadhav off the bowling of Aniket Chaudhary, making much of the damage that was expected out of him with the bat at the top of the order.

Earlier in the day, The home team made a respectable 158 for 6 in their 20 overs on the back of fifties from Mandeep Singh and Travis Head, who rescued the side after the top 3 of Virat kohli, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers once again failed, leaving the side reeling at 34 for 3.

Umesh Yadav was the pick of the Knight Riders bowlers, picking up figures of 3 for 36 in 4 overs and was well supported by Narine, who also excelled with the ball, taking 2 for 29 in his 4 overs.
