What’s the story?

Jofra Archer, the newest hot property in T20 cricket seems all chuffed to play in the upcoming Indian Premier League.

"It is life-changing. It's probably the biggest T20 competition outside of international cricket, and I can't play international cricket at the moment, so it's probably going to be the biggest challenge of my life so far," Archer was as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

The details

Archer also spoke that he believes that his solid performances in the Big Bash League will hold him in good stead in the IPL. However, at the same time, he is aware that this might put additional pressure on him to perform.

The West Indian player who harbours hope of playing for England takes solace from the fact that he will have familiar faces in the dressing room like Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes which will allow him to calm his nerves.

He mentions the contribution of his family in keeping him grounded, a trait which will hold him in great shape in the IPL when fame, fortunes, and money are all up for grabs.

In case you didn’t know…

Archer, who plays for Sussex was snapped up by Rajasthan Royals in the auctions for a handsome Rs. 7.2 crores is a fast bowler with tremendous athletic prowess.

He was one of the talking points in the IPL and forced people to note his pace both with the ball and in the field, and hence this IPL comes at just the right time for him.

What’s next?

As Steve Smith won't be able to take part in the IPL, Archer's chances of getting few games seem very bright since the Jaipur-based franchise would want depth in their bowling attack both with the new as well as the old ball.

They play their first match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 9, and it is an away fixture.

Author’s take

There is little doubt over the talent of Jofra Archer, but it will be very interesting to see how makes the shift to the Indian conditions.

Also, how he responds to pressure scenarios might well make him a more rounded player in the future, and the IPL is all about reacting to pressure situations.
