IPL 2018: Daniel Vettori opens up about Washington Sundar's role for RCB

What's the story?

After finishing at the bottom of the table last season, the Royal Challengers Bangalore will look to turn things around this season. Washington Sundar, who was picked up by the RCB at the mega-auction in January, will be hoping to make a mark for himself in the upcoming tournament.

Daniel Vettori, who is the head coach, opened up the capacity in which he would like to utilise Sundar's skills.

"There was a considered effort to assemble a strong group of domestic bowlers. We'd seen enough of Washington Sundar (to expect the performance he delivered in Sri Lanka). He's bowled in the Powerplay pretty much his whole T20 career. We'll look to utilize that as well," said Vettori, according to the official Royal Challengers Bangalore blog.

In case you didn't know...

The 18-year-old youngster had a base price of Rs. 1.5 lakh and was purchased for more than double the amount by RCB, who paid Rs. 3.2 crores for him after a battle with the Kings XI Punjab at the auction.

He was a part of the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise last year.

The Details

Sundar made his debut for the Indian cricket team earlier this year and performed exceptionally well in the recently concluded Nidahas Trophy, which India won by defeating Bangladesh in a nail-biting final.

Sundar ended up with eight wickets to his name at an economy rate of just 5.70. His exploits earned him the player of the tournament award as well.

Since he is 18, he will also be up for the Emerging Player of the Tournament award.

Sundar will be one of the key bowlers in RCB's line-up and will hope to have a similar impact in the IPL as he did in the Nidahas Trophy for India.

He will look to form a formidable partnership with Chahal and help guide RCB to their first ever title. We can expect him to play in every single match this season and be amongst the wickets as well.
