Virat Kohli has been one player who has been insanely consistent across all formats. He gives his fullest when he takes to the pitch and his fighting spirit has helped India win some difficult tours in the recent past. IPL is no different for him as he has been giving hard times to the bowlers with his excellent form.

IPL 2019 is set to start by the end of next month and to be honest, the wait for IPL has been the same irrespective of the fact that the World Cup will be starting shortly after the tournament. Kohli will pile up runs as usual and will be hoping to lead his team to the title. Though 2018 wasn’t a great year for Kohli in the IPL, opponents would be wary of the fact that he’s dangerous on any given day.

We here list three records that Kohli can break in the upcoming season :

#1. Most Runs in IPL

In the past two seasons, Kohli and Suresh Raina have being giving each other a tough fight in topping the runs chart. Raina topped the list at the end of last year as Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore weren’t able to reach the playoffs while Chennai Super Kings clinched the title due to which Raina played a few extra games that allowed him to take the lead. Currently, Raina has 4985 runs in 176 matches while Kohli has 4948 runs in 163 matches thus falling short by 37 runs.

The upcoming season will see a huge competition between the two veterans to top the chart. If Kohli can outplay Raina, which is quite possible with the terrific form he is in, he might end up as the leading run scorer. Also, Kohli will also look to seal the 5000 run mark first which is just a matter of time for Raina who’s just short by 15 runs...An exciting contest awaits!

#2. Most 50+ scores in IPL

Kohli has been playing for RCB since the start of the league. His stats have always been increasing thus showcasing his experience. In 2016, Kohli was in beast mode as he made 973 runs including four terrific centuries. In the next two years, he made 308 runs and 530 runs. In his 10-year career, he has scored 4948 runs with 34 half centuries and four centuries, thus making it 38 50+ scores in total.

He ranks second in the list of most 50+ scores as David Warner has 39 50+ scores (36 Half-centuries and three centuries). Though Warner returns to the IPL this season and will look to make it a strong comeback, Kohli has an equal chance of topping the list as he is just one 50+ score away. Also, Kohli has been playing continuously without a break which will be an advantage against Warner who returns after a year break.

#3. Most hundreds in IPL

Hitting a century in T20 isn’t an easy task as balls are limited and the player has to be highly competent to progress his innings to reach the three digit mark. In the history of the IPL, only 52 centuries have been made thus proving the difficulty in making a T20 hundred. Currently, Chris Gayle tops the list with six centuries while Kohli has four to his name.

This one might look a bit tough as a player needs to hit two centuries in a season but considering the insanity Kohli carries on the field, it's not out of the realm of possibility. Before the 2016 season, Kohli had zero centuries. Post that season, he registered four centuries, thus making mammoth tasks look easy. The same 2016 season shall stand a reason why Kohli might breach Gayle to the top of the list of most 100’s. Also, Kohli has another threat as Chris Gayle might look to extend his lead with a century or two. Let's see who wins the race!
