It was a busy day for the IPL teams as they had to announce the list of players they want to release and retain ahead of the auctions, which is to take place next month.

The Kings XI Punjab made a few bold decisions and decided to release few big names. Yuvraj Singh, who failed to perform last season with the bat or ball, was released by the team management.

Along with him, Aaron Finch and Axar Patel, too, were released from the squad. Prior to this, they traded Marcus Stoinis for Mandeep Singh.

Currently, there are as many as 15 available slots in the team and the Punjab based franchise are allowed to pick 11 Indians and four foreigners.

They also have the maximum amount in their purse amongst all teams, at Rs. 36.20 crores.

In this article, we take a look at the 3 possible replacements for Yuvraj Singh at KXIP:

#3 Shimron Hetmyer

Shimron Hetmyer made a mark for himself when he led the West Indies Under-19 side to World Cup victory in 2016.

He had to wait a while to make his ODI debut, doing so in December 2017. However, since then, he has been in great form for the Windies.

Apart from ODIs, he has been producing great performances in T20s as well. He lit up the Caribbean Premier League this season, playing for the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Most recently, he performed exceptionally well against India in two out of the five-match ODI series held against them. He scored a century in the first ODI and followed that up with a 94 run knock, both which came at a strike-rate of well over 100.

Hetmyer could be the perfect replacement for Yuvraj in the Kings XI squad in the middle order. We can expect teams to fight over this youngster in the upcoming auction.

#2 Carlos Brathwaite

Carlos Brathwaite will always be remembered for his exploits in the World T20 held in 2016, which saw him hit four sixes in the final over to guide the Windies to victory against England.

Since then, he has not been performing as well as people expected him to, however, he has been putting in the hard yards and stacking up decent performances both with the bat and ball. He has been playing for numerous T20 leagues around the world for a couple of years now and has a strike rate of nearly 150 with the bat.

He could be handy for the Kings XI lower down the order as a finisher and could bowl his full quota of four overs as well.

#1 Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell has not been in the best of forms for his national side or for the multiple T20 sides he plays for around the world.

He has constantly been shifted around the batting order for Australia and keeps finding himself in and out of the team as well.

However, he has a great history in the IPL with the Kings XI Punjab. He scored 552 runs in 16 innings and helped take his side to the final, where they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. He even captained the side in 2017.

He could be the perfect replacement for Yuvraj in the middle order and could use the IPL to get his career back on track. On his day, he can smash any bowler out of the park and single-handedly take his side to victory.
