After a horrible first season, Deccan Chargers stunned everyone by winning the 2009 edition in South Africa. And left-arm seamer RP Singh played a major role in the triumph.

In 16 matches, Singh picked up 23 wickets at an average of 18.13 and a strike rate of 15.56. He also finished with an impressive economy rate of 6.98.

Singh’s best of 4 for 22 came against KKR at Newlands. He got the big wickets of Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle as KKR were held to 101. DC won the game by eight wickets.

Singh starred in the final against RCB as well with figures of 1 for 16. He bowled Jacques Kallis for 15 as DC defended a target of 144.

Another Deccan Chargers bowler dominated the bowling charts in 2010. Left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha was the leading wicket-taker with 21 scalps in 16 games. He picked up his wickets at an average of 20.42 and a strike rate of 16.80, while his economy rate in the season was 7.29.

Ojha’s best of 3 for 26 came against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium in the 33rd game. It was, however, in a losing cause as DC stumbled in a chase of 179.

DC went down to CSK in the second semi-final by 38 runs. Ojha picked up 1 for 27 in the match.

Mumbai Indians’ spearhead Lasith Malinga had a sensational 2011 IPL season. He claimed 28 scalps in 16 matches at an average of 13.39 and a strike rate of 13.50. Malinga also had an exceptional economy rate of 5.95.

His best of 5 for 13 came against Delhi Daredevils in 4th match of the season, played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Malinga clean bowled David Warner, Unmukt Chand and Venugopal Rao as DD were rolled over for 95, with Mumbai eventually winning by eight wickets.

Mumbai bowed out of IPL 2011 in Qualifier 2, failing in a chase of 186 against RCB. Malinga went wicketless in his four overs, conceding 24.

2012 | 25 wickets by Morne Morkel (Delhi Daredevils)

Former South African pacer Morne Morkel was the bowling star of the 2012 edition. Turning out for Delhi Daredevils, he picked up 25 wickets in 16 matches at an average of 18.12 and a strike rate of 15.12. His economy rate was slightly on the higher side though, at 7.19.

Morkel’s best of 4 for 20 came against Kings XI Punjab in the 69th match at Dharamsala. He ran through the lower order to restrict KXIP to 141 for 8. Delhi won the game by six wickets.

CSK thrashed Delhi by 86 runs in the 2nd qualifier as Murali Vijay hit 113 from 58. Morkel did not feature in the game.
