Chennai Super Kings (CSK) posted a daunting total of 210/4 in the first innings of the 39th IPL 2024 match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday. The game is being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and invited the opponents to bat first in the contest. Matt Henry dismissed Ajinkya Rahane (1) on the final ball of the first over to give Lucknow an early breakthrough.
Ruturaj Gaikwad then took the responsibility and played with positive intent to build a good platform for his side. Daryl Mitchell (11 in 10 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (16 in 19 balls) struggled at the other end, which dented CSK's momentum.
Shivam Dube's arrival at the end of the 12th over changed the complexion of the innings as he injected momentum by smashing the bowlers all around the park. Ruturaj Gaikwad continued to play fluently at the other end and completed his second IPL century. He also became the first CSK captain to hit a century.
Gaikwad and Dube's onslaught helped CSK breach the 200-run mark, which looked difficult during the halfway stage. MS Dhoni then enthralled his fans by finishing the innings in style with a four on the final ball.

At the mid-innings break, CSK middle-order batter Shivam Dube reflected on his magnificent knock and the action during the first innings. He said:
"The support from the crowd is amazing over here and we love to play in Chennai. It is a home ground all over (where we play). Rutu (Gaikwad) was playing since long time so I thought he needed one over to recover and I had to go on."
Dube added:
"Bowlers were not expecting it much and I took it on. We have scored a lot of runs, I think we are 10-15 runs better (than par). I enjoy a lot when Rutu bats. It is all class, a different level."
