Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has bagged a deal with Yorkshire County Cricket Club ahead of the Rothesay County Championship game against Surrey at Scarborough. The stylish right-handed batter will also remain with the side for the subsequent edition of the One-day Cup, having been chosen in the India A squad for their current tour of England.
Although Gaikwad primarily plays as an opener, he has shown his versatility in recent times, showcasing his ability to bat anywhere in the top four. The Pune-born cricketer averages a healthy 41.77 in 38 first-class fixtures alongside 2376 runs with seven centuries. He also averages 56.15 in 86 List A games, racking up 16 hundreds.
Addressing his decision to join Yorkshire, Gaikwad said it has always been his dream to experience cricket in England and hopes to see the team lift the silverware. He said, as quoted by the official website:
"I’m excited to be joining up with Yorkshire for the rest of the English domestic season. It has always been a goal of mine to experience cricket in this country and there is no bigger Club in England than Yorkshire. I know how important it is that I hit the ground running at what will be a crucial part of the season. We have some vital games in the County Championship and the One Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware."
The 28-year-old has also represented India in 29 matches, with 23 of them coming in T20Is.

Meanwhile, the CSK captain's campaign in IPL 2025 was cut short by an elbow injury. In what was his second year as captain in IPL, Gaikwad managed 122 runs in five games at 24.40 with a best of 81.
As a result, MS Dhoni took over as captain of the franchise, but CSK created an unwanted history by finishing at the bottom of the points table.
