The Delhi Capitals (DC) have been dealt a massive blow with Aussie all-rounder Mitchell Marsh being ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2024 according to an ESPNCricinfo report.

Marsh played in the side's first four games before missing the last four outings with a torn hamstring injury. The 30-year-old returned home a week back after Cricket Australia (CA) consulted with the IPL team.

His last game was against the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he scored a two-ball duck and picked up figures of 1/37 in three overs. Mitchell Marsh struggled to replicate his reed-hot international form, scoring only 61 runs at an average of 15.25 in four outings.

The all-rounder also failed to impress with the ball, picking up a lone wicket at an average of 103 and an economy rate of almost 13.

DC won only one of their first four games that Marsh played as the star Aussie failed to make the expected impact.

Marsh will not return to India and look to fully recover on time for the T20 World Cup, starting June 1. He is also likely to lead Australia in the tournament.

Delhi Capitals on the brink of elimination at the halfway mark of IPL 2024

Unfortunately for the Delhi Capitals, their on-field performances have been largely inconsistent thus far in IPL 2024.

After finishing second to bottom last season, the side is in eighth position on the points table with only three wins in eight outings. DC won two straight games after losing five out of six to start the season.

However, they suffered a hammering at the hands of SunRisers Hyderabad in their most recent encounter and lost by 67 runs. With only six games left, the side will likely have to win at least five of their matches to stand a chance of finishing in the top four and qualify for the playoffs.

After a terrific run of qualifying for the playoffs from 2019 to 2021, the franchise has been eliminated at the group stage in the last two seasons.

Rishabh Pant and his side will take on the Gujarat Titans in a crucial clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, April 24.
