"Rinku Singh is a strong candidate" - Virender Sehwag thinks KKR star can become finisher like MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh for India

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has showered praise on Rinku Singh for his excellent batting performances in IPL 2023. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star aggregated 474 runs this season, setting a new record for the highest runs scored by a batter in a single IPL tournament while batting below number four.

Singh came into the limelight last season after his 15-ball 40 against the Lucknow Super Giants. He continued his top form and smacked five sixes off five balls against Gujarat Titans this year when KKR needed 29 runs off the last five deliveries.

The uncapped batter continued his fantastic form and ended up scoring 474 runs for his team. Even last night, he scored an unbeaten 33-ball 67, which almost helped KKR defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

In an interaction with Cricbuzz after yesterday's KKR vs LSG match, Virender Sehwag lauded Rinku's finishing skills, saying:

"Only 2 players in Indian history have performed at that number, Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni. No player has scored consistent runs and won matches for India at that number. Rinku Singh is a strong candidate for that number."

Singh was quite consistent in IPL 2023 as he ended the season with a batting average of 59.25. His strike rate was also close to 150. Virender Sehwag appreciated his consistency, adding:

"When you score consistently, you make your name. If I have to keep someone at the top (among those who performed in IPL 2023), it would be Rinku Singh."

Despite Rinku's top performances, KKR failed to finish in the top 4 of the points table. Kolkata will surely retain their uncapped batter for IPL 2024. It will be interesting to see if he receives a place in the Indian squad after his brilliant IPL 2023 season.
