Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 20 runs in the 13th match of IPL 2024 on Sunday at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Courtesy of their first win in the tournament, DC moved up to the seventh position in the points table, with 2 points from 3 games.
After opting to bat first, DC notched up a daunting total of 191/5 in the match. David Warner (52), Prithvi Shaw (43), and Rishabh Pant (51) were the star performers in the Delhi batting unit. Matheesha Pathirana scalped three wickets for the Super Kings in the bowling department.
CSK could only reach 171/6 in 20 overs, with MS Dhoni (37*) and Ravindra Jadeja (21*) unbeaten at the crease. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed troubled the batters with a wonderful swing-bowling display and dismissed both openers cheaply inside the first three overs.
Ajinkya Rahane (45) and Daryl Mitchell (34) resurrected the innings with a stable partnership. Despite their efforts, the required run rate kept escalating and went out of hand in the final phase of the match.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, DC skipper Rishabh Pant reflected on the win and said:
"I think bowlers were very clinical today. We learnt from our mistakes and came out strong today. He (Prithvi Shaw) has been working hard from the last two weeks. We thought it's time to give him a chance and he flourished today. It will depend on match to match.
He added:
"If Mukesh can bowl in the death it will be great for us. As a cricketer I have to give my hundred percent. I took my time initially as I hadn't played too many games in the last one and a half years. Every day I love to be on the field. Yes that one and a half years was tough but you have to keep learning from it. The self belief was always there."
