Urvil Patel smashed the fastest century by an Indian in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Wednesday, November 27. The match between Tripura and Gujarat was played at the Emerald Heights International School Ground in Indore.

Urvil smashed 101 runs off just 28 balls, a knock laced with 11 sixes and seven boundaries. He finished with an unbeaten 113 off 35 deliveries as Gujarat won by eight wickets with 9.4 overs to spare.

The knock came days after Urvil Patel went unsold at the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah. He had registered himself at a base price of INR 30 lakh. He was part of the Gujarat Titans squad in the 2023 season.

Sahil Chauhan of Estonia owns the record for the fastest T20 century (27 balls). He slammed the ton while playing for Estonia against Cyprus in Episkopi in 2024.

The elite list also features West Indies legend Chris Gayle, who slammed a 30-ball ton for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against now-defunct Pune Warriors India at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2013.

The top-five list includes Rishabh Pant and WJ Lubbe, taking 32 and 33 balls, respectively. Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza also has the joint-fifth fastest 100 in the T20 format.

Pant slammed the hundred while playing for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh during SMAT in 2018.

Rohit Sharma previously held the record (35 balls) for fastest century by an Indian in T20 cricket. He had achieved the landmark against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Among Indian players, the top five list also features Yusuf Pathan (37), Shreyas Iyer, Ricky Bhui (both 38) and Sanju Samson (40). Samson slammed the record ton against Bangladesh in Hyderabad in October this year. In international cricket, Tilak Varma recently slammed a 41-ball century in South Africa, the third-fastest ton for the Men in Blue.
