Punjab Kings (PBKS) will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in match 37 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 in Mullanpur on Sunday (April 21).

The two teams have locked horns four times in IPL and have won twice each. Punjab beat Gujarat by three wickets in their most recent faceoff at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad this season.

Asked to bat first, GT posted 199/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Skipper Shubman Gill led from the front, scoring an unbeaten 89 runs off 48 balls in an innings laced with four maximums and six boundaries. Sai Sudharsan, Kane Williamson, and Rahul Tewatia chipped in with 33 (19), 26 (22), and 23*(8), respectively.

Kagiso Rabada was the leading wicket-taker, picking up two wickets, while Harpreet Brar and Harshal Patel bagged one each.

In response, PBKS achieved the target off the penultimate ball. They suffered a poor start as Umesh Yadav sent back Shikhar Dhawan for just one run.

Jonny Bairstow (22 off 13) and Prabhsimran Singh (35 off 24) got off to good starts but threw it away. Sam Curran too walked back for a single-digit score. Sikandar Raza (15 off 16) and Jitesh Sharma (16 off 8) also departed quickly.

Shashank Singh delivered with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 61 off 29 deliveries with the help of four maximums and six boundaries to take the team past the finish line. Ashutosh Sharma played a helping hand with 31 off 17, including one six and three fours.

Noor Ahmad was the top wicket-taker, returning with two wickets, while all the remaining bowlers bagged one wicket apiece.

PBKS' scorecard from their last IPL game

PBKS lost to Mumbai Indians by nine runs in their last IPL game in Mullanpur on April 18.

Asked to bat first, MI put up 192/7 in 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav starred with the bat, scoring 78 off 53 with the help of three sixes and seven boundaries. Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma also chipped in with 36 (25) and 34*(18), respectively.

Harshal Patel emerged as the pick of PBKS bowlers, finishing with figures of 3/31, while stand-in captain Sam Curran picked up two wickets. Meanwhile, Kagiso Rabada also bagged one wicket.

In response, PBKS were bundled out for 183 in 19.1 overs. The hosts got off to the worst possible start as they were reduced to 14/4.

Ashutosh Sharma and Shashank Singh put up a fight. Sharma smashed 61 off 28, smoking seven sixes and two boundaries. The 25-year-old set up the game in favor of Punjab but his wicket brought MI back into the game. Meanwhile, Shashank scored 41 off 25, including three sixes and two boundaries.

Gerald Coetzee and Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the pick of MI bowlers, returning with three wickets each. Skipper Hardik Pandya, Akash Madhwal, and Shreyas Gopal picked up one wicket apiece.

GT's scorecard from their last IPL match

GT lost to Delhi Capitals by six wickets in their last IPL game at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on April 17.

Put in to bat first, GT were bundled out for 89 in 17.3 overs. Rashid Khan top-scored with 31 off 24, including one six and two boundaries. Sai Sudharsan and Rahul Tewatia were the other two batters to reach double-digit scores.

Mukesh Kumar starred with the ball for DC, returning with figures of 3/14 in just 2.3 overs. Ishant Sharma and Tristan Stubbs scalped two wickets each. Meanwhile, Khaleel Ahmed and Axar Patel also shared one each.

In response, the Capitals achieved the target in just 8.5 overs. Jake Fraser-McGurk top scored with 20 off 10, while Abishek Porel and Shai Hope also chipped in double digits. Skipper Rishabh Pant stayed unbeaten on 16 off 11. The wicketkeeper-batter took a stunning one-handed catch and inflicted two brilliant stumpings as well in the game.

Sandeep Warrier put on a fight for the Titans, picking up two wickets but conceded 40 runs in his three overs. Spencer Johnson and Rashid Khan scalped one wicket apiece.
