IPL 2018: Rating the performances of the Australian players in this IPL

We are just over a month into the 2018 Indian Premier League with the battle heating up for the spots in the Playoffs which begin in a couple of weeks of time.

Like the case every year, the competition this season has seen players from across the world thrill audiences and play key roles in the success of their respective sides.

There has been quite a bit of an Australian flavor this time around, some of whom have been important to their side's dominance while others who have not yet done much of note.

Here's rating the exploits of the Australian players in this competition so far:

Note: Billy Stanlake has not been included since he had to leave owing to injury.

Daniel Christian

With just three matches left in the league phase, he would hope to make a bigger contribution to the team's cause. The all-rounder, who was picked by the Delhi Daredevils at the auction has not had the greatest of times either with bat or ball. In the four matches that he has played so far, Christian has made a mere 26 runs and taken just four wickets, adding little value to the team's cause.

Rating: 1/10

Ben Cutting

The Mumbai Indians all-rounder has not had the best of times with the franchise this year, making just 45 runs in 6 matches with the bat in hand and taking just two wickets with the ball.

Cutting was one of the underrated heroes for the Sunrisers Hyderabad when they won the final in 2016 when he smashed a late cameo to provide them with the extra runs that eventually made the difference.

The defending champions will look at him to make more of such contributions in the remaining matches.

Rating: 1/10

D'arcy Short

One of the big draws this year thanks to his exploits in the Big Bash League, Short has been a misfire for Rajasthan Royals in this IPL with just 111 runs in six matches at 18.50.

The left-hander, who was expected to be a key member of the batting unit will need to step in the remaining matches if given an opportunity if the side hopes to make it through to the playoffs stage of the competition.

Rating: 2/10

Aaron Finch

The Australian right-hander has been one of the disappointments in an otherwise refreshing season for the Kings XI Punjab, making a mere 24 runs in six matches.

Finch is one of the traveled players in the IPL having played for several franchises but with the R Ashwin-led side he has not made the kind of impact he or franchise would have hoped from him.

Rating: 1/10

Glenn Maxwell

Enter caption

The right-hander often tipped to be the showman of the side, has had a forgettable league with the Delhi Daredevils, making just 142 runs in 10 matches and taking just five wickets with the ball.

Every season the IPL comes around and Maxwell's name is always in the list of players expected to do well, but that doesn't turn out to be the case and he becomes a big letdown for the franchise.

Rating: 1/10

Andrew Tye

Excellent. If you were to describe Andrew Tye with the ball for the Kings XI Punjab. In 10 matches so far, he has picked up 16 wickets at a rate of 7.77 and he has been one of the stars with the ball for the side.

As the franchise look to book a spot in the playoffs in the next few matches, Tye will need to be on top form and ensure that his side gets there and go beyond from there as well.

Rating: 6/10

Shane Watson

Before this IPL started, many felt that Shane Watson's stocks as a cricketer weren't as high as in some of the previous seasons, that the body, ravaged by so many injuries was finally starting to give in.

But the former Australian all-rounder has proved all his detractors wrong with an all-round effort that has seen make 328 runs in 10 matches as well as pick up six wickets with the ball.

He lends good balance for the side, who would hope from him to keep this form intact for the remainder of the competition.

Rating: 6.5/10
