Born on April 6, 2000 in Khyber Agency, Shaheen Shah Afridi is among the most impressive pacers in the current era.


A tall, left-arm pacer blessed with the ability to make the ball talk, Shaheen rose to stardom following his exploits in the 2018 ICC U19 World Cup, where he claimed 12 wickets in five games at and average of 24.33 and an economy rate of 3.65.


He was immediately drafted into the national team when the West Indies toured Pakistan for a T20I series in April 2018. Since then, Shaheen has gone from strength-to-strength in all formats, thereby establishing himself as Pakistan's pace spearhead.

  • On December 19, 2019, Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed his maiden five-wicket-haul in Test cricket against Sri Lanka in Karachi. By doing that, he became the 25th-youngest overall and eighth-youngest from Pakistan to achieve the feat.

  • Shaheen Shah Afridi is the third-youngest pacer in the 21st century to claim a 10-wicket haul in Tests. He was 21 years and 136 days old when he claimed figures of 6-51 and 4-53 against the West Indies at Sabina Park in Jamaica on August 21.

  • By doing that, Shaheen Shah Afridi also became Pakistan's fourth-youngest pacer after Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Mohammad Zahid to register a ten-for. Overall, he is the 23rd-youngest to reach the milestone.

  • Shaheen Afridi has taken 41 wickets in eight matches in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle. He stands at the 10th position in the all-time list of most wickets by a bowler in a series.

  • Shaheen Afridi was Pakistan's leading wicket-taker and overall second-most successful bowler in Tests in 2021. In 17 innings, the left-arm seamer claimed 47 wickets at an average of 17.06, with three five-wicket hauls and one ten-for.

  • With 208 international wickets in 97 matches, Shaheen Afridi is the fourth-highest leading wicket-taker for Pakistan among left-arm pacers.

  • During the 2019 World Cup fixture against Afghanistan, Shaheen Shah Afridi scripted history as he became the first teenager to claim a four-wicket-haul in the marquee event. Afridi was 19 years and 84 days at the time when he claimed match-winning figures of 4/47.

  • In the same World Cup, Shaheen scripted more history as his unbelievable figures of 6/35 against Bangladesh made him the first teenager - 19 years and 90 days - to claim a five-wicket-haul in the quadrennial event. He became the eighth-youngest overall and the fourth-youngest Pakistani to claim a five-for in ODIs.

  • Afridi's figures of 6/35 are the best figures by a Pakistani bowler in the 50-over World Cup.

  • Shaheen Afridi finished the 2019 World Cup with 16 wickets - the most by a teenager in the history of the tournament.

  • Shaheen Afridi is one of the 11 bowlers in the world who has taken four-plus wickets in three consecutive innings. He picked up 4/47 vs Afghanistan, 6/35 vs Bangladesh and then 5/49 against Zimbabwe in three innings across June 2019-October 2020.

  • Shaheen Afridi is one of the 11 bowlers in the history of ODI cricket to take consecutive five-wicket-hauls.

  • On April 7, 2021, Shaheen Shah Afridi became the eighth-fastest (in terms of matches played) to claim 50 wickets. He claimed his 50th scalp in his 25th ODI.

  • At 17 years and 362 days, Shaheen Shah Afridi became the third-youngest cricketer to represent Pakistan in T20Is when he made his debut against the West Indies in Karachi on April 3, 2018.

  • Among pacers, Shaheen Shah Afridi is the sixth-highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in T20Is – 47 wickets in 40 innings at an average of 24.31 and an economy rate of 7.75.

  • Shaheen Afridi's best performance in T20Is so far came against arch-rivals India at the 2021 World Cup. The left-arm pacer decimated the famed Indian top order, and went on to register match-winning figures of 3/31. He was adjudged the Player of the Match for his performance as Pakistan broke their World Cup hoodoo against India.
