Sourav Ganguly in BCCI panel to study Lodha Committee verdict

Ganguly is also the part of BCCI’s advisory panel

The Governing Council (GC) of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced the panel members' name who will be studying the Lodha Committee verdict. The panel will constitute the former Indian team captain, Sourav Ganguly and the chairman of Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajeev Shukla, will be joined by Anurag Thakur, the secretary of the Board of Cricket for Control in India (BCCI) and Anirudh Chaudhary, the BCCI treasurer.

The four-man working group will be assisted by the legal head of BCCI, UN Banerjee. The GC of IPL yesterday decided to abide by the Lodha report and made a decision to constitute a panel for the same.

Before this, the Supreme Court appointed Lodha committee suspended Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) for two years from the IPL in the spot-fixing and betting scandal that rocked the Twenty20 tournament in 2013.

Former CSK team official Gurunath Meiyappan and Royals co-owner Raj Kundra, both of whom were earlier found guilty of betting, were banned for life from any cricketing activity.

After the BCCI board meeting yesterday in Mumbai, Thakur gave a statement that Shukla has been authorised to form a panel which will study the verdict.

"The IPL GC authorised the chairman, Shri Rajeev Shukla, to constitute a working group which will study this verdict, in consultation with all our key advisors and explore all the possible measures to be adopted, with an objective to protect the interests of all the stakeholders involved," Thakur said.

This group will submit their report on its findings and recommendations within six weeks to the GC which will then weigh and share their views with the working committee of the BCCI for further action.
