Sreesanth’s parents react to spot-fixing allegations

India v Australia - 2011 ICC World Cup Warm Up Game

Parents of Rajasthan Royals pacer Sreesanth, who has been accused of spot-fixing along with two other players, have reacted to the allegations.

Reports state that Sreesanth’s father Shanthakumaran Nair has now blamed India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and teammate Harbhajan Singh. He also said that this mess that Sreesanth has found himself in is part of a larger conspiracy.

Dhoni and Harbhajan conspired to finish his cricketing career,The latter had executed this with the help of a deputy superintendent of police in Punjab. Dhoni had threatened him recently that he won’t don the Indian cap again.” Nair said to Malayalam Manorama.

He is innocent. A committed player, he will be the last person to do this,” said Madhu Balakrishnan, Sreesanth’s brother-in-law.

The Kerala pacer was arrested along with his teammates Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan by the Delhi police in Mumbai last night, on charges of spot-fixing in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Sreesanth, however, has seemingly found an ally in HRD minister Shashi Tharoor, who said he believed in his innocence.

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, also the co-owner of Rajasthan Royals, said: “We are completely taken by surprise… We will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. The management at Rajasthan Royals has a zero-tolerance approach to anything that is against the spirit of the game.

Around 3 years ago, attending a walkathon event for the visually challenged, Sreesanth had taken a strong stance against spot fixing, commenting on the spot-fixing scandal three Pakistani cricketers had gotten involved in. The video can be seen below:
