Suresh Raina creates yet another record; becomes first batsman to score 400 runs in all editions of IPL

Suresh Raina has now scored at least 400 runs in all IPL editions

Suresh Raina has played every single match for the Chennai Super Kings in all editions of IPL so far and against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday, he added another record to his name. Against the Mumbai Indians he showed just why he is one of the most influential players in his side by smashing a match winning 54 off just 33 balls and in the process, became the first batsman to score at least 400 runs in every single edition of the Indian Premier League.

Raina has been a model of consistency for CSK in every single edition of the IPL and this record is a testament to just that. It is not just the fact that he scores a lot, but his fifty proved once again that he is the go-to man for CSK in pressure situations. This is not the first time Raina created an IPL record this season.

Earlier in the tournament, Raina also became the first batsman to score over 3000 IPL runs and has thus far scored 3238 in his 114 IPL matches to cement his place as the top run-getter in the IPL. Rohit Sharma, whose dreams of lifting his second-straight IPL title with the Mumbai Indians, were dashed with this defeat, is in a distant-second place with 2903 runs, while Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper Gautam Gambhir currently occupies the third spot with 2783 runs.

With his fifty against the Mumbai Indians, Raina also inched closer to Gambhir’s record of most fifties in IPL. Raina now has 22 and is just one behind Gambhir’s record of 23. His fifty also meant that he equaled Gambhir’s record of most 50+ scores in IPL.

With CSK playing the 2nd eliminator against Kings XI Punjab next, Suresh Raina will be hoping to continue his good form, overtake Gambhir and guide his side to their sixth IPL final. With the kind of form that he is in right now, few would bet against the southpaw guiding his side to a record-third IPL crown.

It was a great day for Raina as he not only helped CSK reach the 2nd eliminator, but also made a comeback in the one day side for the Bangladesh tour. The icing on the cake was that he has been named captain for the series due to the absence of MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.
