Suryakumar Yadav is an Indian cricketer who plays in ODI and T20I formats for the national team and represents Mumbai cricket team at domestic level. Suryakumar plays for five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

After almost toiling hard in domestic cricket and IPL for nearly a decade, Suryakumar got his due recognition and opportunity to play for the senior Indian men’s team. The Mumbai-born batter made his international debut on March 14, 2021 in Ahmedabad against England in a T20I match. However, Suryakumar didn’t got the opportunity to bat on his debut but made 57 in his first T20I innings in the fourth T20I match.

Since then Suryakumar hasn’t looked back and has move forward by leaps and bounds. He was part of India’s squad in the 2021 T20 World where he played four games and scored 42 runs in three innings.

Thanks to his splendorous batting display and penchant to play shots across the ground, making him a versatile white-ball format player for the national side. Suryakumar retained his position in India’s T20 World Cup squad by the dint of outstanding knocks in bilateral series in the build up to World T20 2022.

Suryakumar Yadav played 77 first-class matches, including those played for India A teams, before making debut for India. The Mumbai batter amassed 5326 runs in 129 FC innings at an average of 44.01 with 26 half-centuries and 14 centuries to his name.

Although Suryakumar has been named in India’s Test squad on a couple of instances, the middle order batter never got the chance to wear the whites for the national side. Suryakumar replaced KL Rahul in India’s Test squad for the two Tests against New Zealand in November 2021 but watched both games from the sidelines.

Four months after making T20I debut, Suryakumar was named in India’s second-string limited overs squad for the Sri Lanka tour in July 2021. Surykaumar made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on July 18 during the first ODI and remained unbeaten on 31.

As of October 2022, Suryakumar has played 13 One-Day Internationals and scored 340 runs at 34 and a couple of fifties, including his best score of 64 against West Indies in February 2022. Suryakumar became the first batter to score 30-plus scores in his first six ODI innings.

On October 2, 2022, Suryakumar completed 1000 T20I runs and became the ninth Indian player to achieve the feat. The Indian batter has scored 1045 runs in 32 innings at a strike rate of 176.82 with nine half-centuries and only century against England.

During the final T20I match in Nottingham, India were set with a mammoth score of 216 to chase in order to whitewash England 3-0. While India’s top batting order fell early in the chase, Suryakumar lifted the hopes with his pyrotechnics.

Suryakumar took the attack to the England bowlers and played his shots with sheer elegance to make batting look simpler than anything. Suryakumar smashed 14 boundaries and six sixes during his 55-ball 117 that kept England away from the game until the penultimate over where Moeen Ali dismissed the fiery Indian batter.
