The 11th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is less than a month away. In every season, many records were set and broken.

Although T20 is considered to be a batsmen friendly game, we have witnessed a total of 16 hat-tricks, since the Inaugural edition.

Many bowlers have stepped up and dominated the game. Let us have a look at the top three hat-tricks by Indians, which left a mark in the IPL history.


#3 Rohit Sharma vs Mumbai Indians 2009

Batting first, Deccan Chargers put up a fighting total of 145/6 in their allocated 20 overs. Rohit Sharma top-scored with the bat for the Deccan Chargers with 38 of 36 balls.

In reply, Mumbai Indians were 100/4 by the end of 15 overs, requiring 46 runs from 30 balls. The game was in the balance, with JP Duminy steering the Mumbai chase.

Sharma was brought into the attack and the gamble paid off, when he removed Abhishek Nayar and Harbhajan Singh of the fifth and sixth ball of the 16th over.

He got the important wicket of Duminy on the first ball of the 18th over, caught down the leg side by Adam Gilchrist.

With this achievement, Sharma became the fourth Indian to register a hat-trick in the history of IPL.

Deccan Chargers went on to win the match by 19 runs and for his all-round effort, Sharma was awarded the Man of the Match.

#2 Yuvraj Singh vs Deccan Chargers 2009

Kings XI Punjab won this game by one run

Put into bat, Kings XI Punjab reached a modest total of 134/7 in their allocated 20 overs. Deccan Chargers were cruising at 70-2, requiring 65 runs off 54 balls.

Yuvraj Singh who was into his second over, picked up the wicket of Herschelle Gibbs, who was caught by the fielder at point on the last ball of 12th over.

Andrew Symonds was the next to go, who was stumped after a brilliant piece of wicket-keeping by Kumara Sangakkara.

Facing the hat-trick ball, Venugopal Rao left a straight flat arm delivery that cannoned into the stumps.

In the end, Kings XI Punjab won the game by one run, thanks to the magical spell by Yuvraj and was rightly awarded the Man of the Match award.

#1 Amit Mishra vs Pune Warriors 2013

Mishra picked up four wickets in one over

Pune Warriors were chasing a small target of 120 runs, looked well on their way requiring 14 runs from 12 balls with Manish Pandey and Angelo Mathews in the crease.

Amit Mishra picked up the wicket of Mathews, when the latter was caught at deep mid-on by Dale Steyn on the second ball of the over.

On the fourth ball of the over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar was adjudged Leg Before Wicket after he missed a googly from Mishra.

Rahul Sharma was the next to go, after he missed a straight fuller delivery, trying to slog it over deep mid-wicket.

A perfect googly to Ashoke Dinda, which comes in and beats the defense of the batsman. Mishra gets three in three and four in the over to complete a memorable match-winning hat-trick.

Sunrisers won the game by 11 runs and Mishra was awarded the Man of the Match award.
