Two spots were vacated in the eight-team franchise-based T20 league, after the Justice Lodha Committee, constituted by the Honourable Supreme Court of India to probe into the alleged IPL corruption scandal of 2013, suspended the Chennai Super Kings and the Rajasthan Royals franchises for two years.

The BCCI had earlier released an Invitation To Tender (ITT) document for the interested parties willing to buy a franchise from the two that are up on offer. The BCCI’s offer had garnered huge interest, as, over 10 companies including giants such as Videocon, Haldirams and Yes Bank, bought the document.
