The 8th edition of the ICC Womens T20 World Cup is all set to get underway in 'rainbow nation' South Africa this February.
The marquee event will take place across three venues in South Africa- Newlands, Cape Town, Boland Park, Paarl, and St George's Park in Port Elizabeth- between February 10-26.
The T20 World Cup was originally set to take place in 2022, but it was eventually postponed to Feb 2023 to avoid clash with the Fifa World Cup, in addition to the fact that the 50-over World Cup had already taken place in 2022.
The ten-team competition will see 5 teams from each Group battle it out for the honours of competing in the semifinals followed by the summit clash on Feb 26.
Defending champions and 5-time winners, Australia are placed in Group A, alongside neighbours New Zealand, hosts South Africa and the two Asian sides in Bangladesh Women and Sri Lanka Women.
The 2020 runners-up, India, meanwhile, find themselves in Group B, alongside former world champions, England Women and West Indies Women, arch-rivals Pakistan and Ireland Women.
ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2023: Prize Money
The prize money for Women's World Cups- T20 and ODIs- have taken a significant leap in the past few years.
The winners (Australia) of the last edition of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, which took place in Australia in Feb-March 2020, were awarded $1 million, while runners-up India Women went home with $50K.
The increase in prize money for the 2020 event was 320% as compared to the previous edition.
Subsequently, the prize money of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, which took place in 2022, was also increased from $2 million to $3.5 million.
While the ICC is yet to publish the prize money for the upcoming World Cup, one can certainly expect an increment this time as well.
