World Cup 2019, Match 27: England vs Sri Lanka Match Prediction - Who will win today's match?
England and Sri Lanka have got off to contrasting starts to the 2019 World Cup. The hosts can consolidate their position in the top four by beating Sri Lanka. The Island nation knows that a loss in this match would virtually end their chances of qualifying for the semifinals. The two teams have a very even head-to-head record, which is edged by England, who has won 36 matches while Sri Lanka has won 35.
England has lived up to their billing of pre-tournament favourites as they have won four of their first five matches. The hosts were stunned by Pakistan in their second match of the tournament. After that blow, the pre-tournament favourites have won three matches in a row.
Sri Lanka has struggled as they have won only one of their first five matches. After a humiliating defeat against New Zealand, the 1996 World Champions beat Afghanistan in their second match of the tournament. Two wash-outs and subsequent defeat to Australia have further reduced their chances of qualifying for the semifinals.
If England bat first
England has a power-packed batting line up which showed its strength vs Afghanistan. The hosts were able to post a huge score of 397 against the minnows. England captain, Eoin Morgan led from the front as he broke the world record for most sixes in an ODI.
Considering the form of English batsmen, a score of around 380-390 is on the cards.
If Sri Lanka bat first
Sri Lankan batting line up seems to be over-dependent on the opening pair of Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera. While the openers have done well, other batsmen have failed to show up.
The Asian team would be hoping that the middle order can do well. Sri Lanka should try to post a score of around 270-280 to be competitive against the hosts.
Who will win the match?
The hosts seem to be too strong for Sri Lanka, so they should be able to overpower the Asian team.
